This is the third time that I've encountered wire strung across a right of way. The wire was not visible unless very close and was unmarked by the usual rags or plastic sheet.

The wire broke when my friend rode through which bruised his arm.

SS600350 (Goodleigh, Devon). 02.05.15.

  • Once as a kid I cycled through a wire and it cut my neck open. I was far from home and alone, I had to push my bike hone while holding my bleeding neck. People who do this need serious jail time or worse
  • I hit a wire on my mini bike when I was a kid. It knocked me and my passenger off and damaged my bike. A man put it their because he didn't like bikes coming off the trails and riding on the street he lived on. For the next 5 or 6 years every time I road those trails, I went down that trail and threw rocks at his house and cars.

This happened to a lad near me along time ago crushed his voice box and nearly decapitated him, who ever is responsible should be done for attempted murder.
  • Seen this myself. And it was kneck hight! And it was steel wire. Shurley this is classed as atempted murder! Fucking crazy!!!!
  • @peatpage4131
Stake it out and catch them in the act . What you do to them is up to you
  • @mark.e.p
MTB rider here too, seen it across Friston Forest near Eastbourne.

I have seen similar in Arizona where 2x4s with long nails driven through then the board was buried with just the nails sticking up along a trail

I live right next to a forest in Oz, that gets frequented by bikers and love seeing them enjoying them enjoying themselves by using the tracks and keeping them clear of debris. Life's meant to be enjoyed. Just because I don't own a bike is no reason for me to upset at the fortunate bikers. Besides, those that I've met have been absolutely top blokes.
  • @janred94
We had a case where people (probably local residents who wanted those roads blocked for bikers) put sand, gravel and/or oil in a sharp corner where bikers met to drive. Willing to kill for a quieter weekend, some people are just crazy...

I'm thinking what's happened here, (due to seeing what the wire was attached to, ie the white plastic handle), that's used in electric fencing on farms and stables. Because of where it was positioned, on either side of the cross roads, I'm thinking a farmer was moving cows from one side to another and hadn't taken it down yet.
  • @FlyingFun.
Probably farmer forgot to remove it after moving livestock, But I've seen piano wire strung across paths at head height before which is obviously deliberate and really is attempted murder.
  • @donalddday7741
Can see doing this if you have no trespassing signs up and wire on your land, but if its a public trail and you do this you need jail time
  • @Charlie-Oooooo
Goodleigh in England! Brings back memories of my former girlfriend long ago 💔 Ride safe on those bikes mates!
  • @sidwalters7455
I lived in Australia for years and came across this very same thing on several occasions , crazy
  • @danzarlengo7127
This was a common tactic in world war 2, used against advancing Allied troops. They strung piano wire at neck height of drivers of uncovered jeeps. So they welded a steel post on the front bumper to snap any wires. History lesson, not advising bikers to do that.

Happend to 2 of my m8s separate incidents 10yr ago both got hospitalised, 1 seriously injured got a pipe in throat and liquid food into stomach via pipe,, these people need to be caught and held accountable
  • @Deadmau5l
A lad a good few years back entered a woods near my house and a wire legit cut his head off. Find the person who lives close by and do some reverse engineering with his nose
  • Fifty years ago, whilst riding a Bicycle downhill along a country pathway, I struck a Wire (Fencing Wire) which had been strung across the pathway. So many young Bicycle Riders fell foul of this Boobytrap that Police were forced to investigate. Eventually a Gentleman who was a Dog Walker in the area was caught and charged with something or other. After that the pathway became safe once again.
