Love that you didn't edit out the "fails". It gives a more realistic view on how "easy" it is to find fatwood.
  • Fortunate to have an abundance of it in my neck of the woods . Old timers I grew up around always called it lighter knot . I like to make “fluff” with it and keep it in sealed containers for ready made tender .
  • That last big piece looked like it would be a good candidate for collecting a jar full of pine resin.
  • I’ve been needing a video like this, thank you so much for making it.

Ooh, knowledge dropped, thank you! I carry a small 6" stick of this stuff strapped next to an emergency glowstick, but it's nice to know how to find it on my own :D Turns out we have some of these pines not far from here, too. A guy on a local bushcraft forum posted a huge haul he got not even two hours away. Thanks again!

I like your style and editing. Nice finds. Great fire. Keep it burning! 🤘
  • I had no idea about fat wood, your channel has opened my mind. We need to look to the abundance of resources around us instead of looking for flashy new gear and gadgets. Thank you so much for making videos like this. 👍

Very good example of finding fat wood. I’m in eastern woodland, have plenty of pine and cedar. For bout 3 months in the spring it’s like a rain forest here, good time to have fat wood .
  • That was some good info, thanks. I found out about fat wood a few years ago and have yet to venture out into our local Idaho forests to look for some. We do have pines but not the same species you mentioned. I will get out there this summer I hope, and see what I can find. But in the mean time, I caved and bought a box of it at Home Depot so that I could at least stock my car kit, and go bag with some. Great fire starter and pretty darned inexpensive.
  • I met someone once that said they didn't even know what "fat lighter" WAS... The weird thing is, that THEY were from the same area (the southeastern U.S.) THAT I WAS. I mean a real fellow "country boy"! So I can see where this is definitely a needed video, for people to help educate themselves on basic knowledge for survival skills! Great video man! 👍 (Keep the great content coming!!)

  • Thank you for everything you have done Josh, for this channel, for this community I am becoming a part of, and for this country. You are excellent at what you do, and I had to buy your book for that reason! Two chapters in and it is already worth the money in my opinion, cannot wait to finish it! Would recommend to anyone who watches your videos

  • Wow! Now that's a Mother Load! I would have given a big YeeHaw! And called in Bushcrafters for miles like a coyote on a fresh kill! Yepper I got a piece about 1 x 3 inches long and ran 2 miles home just to show my wifie! Anyhow, really a great find and video! Thanks for sharing!
  • @bobclark7211
