The Incredible Transformation of an RPG-7

Published 2023-06-05
The RPG-7 anti-tank grenade launcher is an impressively robust, simple, and deadly weapon. Originating from the German Panzerfaust anti-tank weapon, the design of the RPG has seen many revisions and modifications, culminating in the widely-used RPG-7. Despite the successful field trials of the RPG-4 in 1961, the superior range and armor piercing capabilities of the RPG-7 made it the weapon of choice for the Soviet Armed forces that year. Now, the RPG-7 is employed by military forces in over forty countries and is reportedly used by various terrorist organizations across the Middle East and Latin America.

There are numerous versions of the RPG-7, each refined and optimized for specific operational scenarios and targets. Some notable models include the standard RPG-7V, RPG-7D paratrooper model, the lighter Chinese Type 69 RPG, and various local variants produced by countries that have adopted the system.

The RPG-7 is more than just a singular weapon; it's a versatile platform capable of launching different types of grenades depending on the scenario.

  • Interesting that this video claims the RPG-7 is a derivative of the German designed Panzerfaust - which it is not. Even more interesting is it omits to mention the RPG-7 was invented in the Soviet Union and shows only non-Russian users. That's a hefty amount of history rewriting!

  • The RPG-7 doesn't have an arming delay the fuze is active when you load the rocket into the launcher. The nose has a protective cap that have to be remove before firing.

Yea. And if the striker got stuck the rocket won't leave the barrel, the entire weapon fly forward and tear your fingers off, maybe a piece of the head too.

You still have to align the tab at 12oclock and cock the hammer to fire. Also, this didn't show the stabilizer fins deploy. Good video though!

The RPG-7 shape charge warhead is effective against penetrating armor, but slat armor can counter this.
