Sanborn 60 gal Shop Air Compressor Setup

I just bought the exact same compressor a week ago from my uncle,he'd had it setting in his garage for over 10 years,it needed alot of work but I did it an it's great now!!!!

Bought mine in 89 at sam's for $400 for my old Gulf Station turned repair shop, ran both lifts, could spray cars...says 5hp, idk but still works. Got some nice filters, dryers, regulators from my Mac tool man to spray my now restored 68 Cougar Dad bought new.

Scotty I don't know if you are running that compressor in the position it is shown in (turns out Yes!) but as it sits just under the switch and Plug box, it is way too close to the wall. Spec says minimum 12" away from the cage protecting the flywheel. This allows for free flow of the air around the cage and pump head for cooling. The way you are running it will cause more heat and less flow thereby shortening the life of the pump and motor. The pump flywheel actually acts as a fan pushing air over the compressor head to cool it. Your position shuts off the air flow. I'd recommend spiking the whole unit around 180 degrees. I like your bottom bung hose extension to bleed off the water that builds up in the tank. another approach would be to use the lowest point in your copper line to have a bleed off port, like where your air hose is currently connected. Gas lines have to have a drop to allow for trapped moisture to be bled off the system. Another cheaper choice than copper is to use iron gas line which is usually much cheaper than copper. You use a lot of copper. Practice your soldering techniques as well as your joints are very over soldered. A little goes a long way if cleaned and fluxed properly. The electrical hook up is insane. Run a Ground and a common to the switch and then from the switch all the way back to the Panel. The conduit slack hanging down front the ceiling to the top of the Switch looks scary. Hope you don't sang it on your way through carrying a metallic object and energize yourself or EV with Line voltage! Not pretty!! Always pin it down to another piece of framing so its not hanging loose. Your work should be clean Neat, tidy and pretty to the eye. If it looks good it is usually done right. "Good is never Good Enough". Good video! Lots of good Ideas and lots of stuff to watch out for. I have at least 4 compressors three of which work and the forth is an ancient relic from the industrial golden age which is built like a tank and is a project for a cold winter night. Can't wait. Hi Fix It Scotty, I bought a house and this compressor came with the house. I did drain the water and replaced the filters. I am wondering how to change the oil. Can you please do a short video on that? Or just give some instructions ( I saw you mentioning the dip stick type oil level, but where is it? Is that the bolt like thing you were pointing to?)
