Barrera was at his tiptop prime at this point of his career. Coming into this, he defeated Johnny Tapia, Erik Morales, and Naseem Hamed. All of them were the top dogs of the Division. The last two mentioned were undefeated and Barrera dented their records. Barrera at this point was the King of the Division. Pacquiao was unknown at this time. But on this night a superstar was born.
  • I remember watching this fight randomly one late night. it was being shown for free in the UK. I had never heard of Manny and I became a fan instantly.

I love dela hoya's big smile there, he had no idea that small guy will retire him in the future 😂
  • @Mr.Clutch03
This fight was Manny Pacquiao's introduction to the world of boxing and rest was history. A forever legend indeed 👏
  • I like how the crowd changed from Barrera fans to appreciating the young superstar. Great to see a performance like this being applauded.
  • I got teary-eyed rewatching this. This was Pac's introduction to the world. Very humble in winning. Up to this day, he still is the great Manny Pacquiao.

47:34 The look on mannys face at that moment, I felt so sorry for him. Such a humbled fighter and to be treated like that is unreal
  • The intro was enough to make a grown man cry . Pac-Man the 🐐 was embracing it all and just smiling. 🥹 San Antonio fans were blessed tht night and didn’t realize a legend WAS IN THE MAKING . SOUTHEAST ASIA favorite boxer of all time 💯 🇵🇭
  • @teojoni2311
He was treated unfair in the 1st round, but he didn't make a fuss out of it. What a man.

Do y'all realize how crazy PACQUIAO is to do this? Man really made his name knowm in his opponent's territory. He humiliated Barrera not just by outboxing him, but also by forcing Barrera's corner to stop the fight, IN FRONT OF THEIR OWN CROWD. How hard this must be for them. Legend.
  • @ianmarkooo
My tears dropped when I see boboy fernandez crying for the win of his best friend. The loyalty of boboy to manny since they were young.
  • I remeber watching this on live telecast and i was on my teens. Now im 34yrs old and still rewatching senator mannys fights. What a legend. Enjoy the retirement our hero! ❤️
  • As Manny said before this is the most focused and most prepared his been in the fight, the hardest training he had, doing 32 rounds of sparring every day up to the fight and his most favorite fight of all. This fight catapulted him to be a superstar. GOAT
  • Pacquiao knew that the interview was more difficult than the actual fight..😂😂😂😂
  • Its hard to comprehend how exceptional of condition Manny is in. His speed and power were just on another level. For him to just take apart a great fighter like Berrera is just incredible at that point in his career!
  • @BeaWalsh
It's hard to imagine that at this time, manny was relatively unknown to many and the crowd was like 95% barera. Then, Manny too, became a legend and crowd favorite for decades. Love barera, morales, cotto, etc. Manny, along with them are legends.
  • Barrera was 29 years old (prime) when this fight happened and Pacquiao was 24 (young) but the speed and annihilation by Pacquiao was too much that Barrera looks like a 40 year old fighter. This was Manny's first major step to become a legend. Incredible...
  • One of the greatest to ever do it. I’m beyond blessed to watch his boxing journey. Once in a lifetime 🇵🇭!!!!
