Three surfers who were vacationing in Mexico went missing on April 27 after enjoying a day in the ocean off the coast of Baja California. Authorities said Jack Carter Rhoad, an American citizen, and Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson were found dead two weeks later at the bottom of a well with another body under them. Law&Crime’s Sierra Gillespie breaks down the nightmare faced by the surfer trio.

Why do they block the faces of the men suspects but show the females face? If she gets out, they are making her a target.

The US Govt has been warning US citizens about Baja for years and people still go there. It makes no sense. People think they will be the exception. Surf in California!

They wanted to steal the tires? But yet the truck was burned with the tires

It is quite astonishing that the suspects were apprehended so swiftly, considering that most killings in Mexico remain unsolved!?

Why hide the men’s faces but not the woman’s?

I learned absolutely nothing in this 15 minute report….

These guys were in an area that not even locals go. The local authorities have said it. Why in the world did they stay there?
  • STAY OUT of MEXICO!! The gangs are way too bad and there’s NO control. RIP my heart goes out to the MOTHER losing two sons.

It's not the first time that I hear someone reporting or commenting on the story mention that the victims likely resisted a robbery and that's why they ended up dead. Talk about blaming the victim! That's revolting. If the perpetrators were waving a gun around, I could understand the young men not taking things passively and resisting indeed. But more telling is the fact that apparently all three victims were shot in the head... That's basically execution style, where the victims are not running away or resisting but forced to kneel down and then executed. No more blaming these victims, please!

This is so sad, I feel horrible for their families. I can’t imagine having to travel to another country to identify your 2 sons😣
  • As a Mexican Canadian is very tragic that 3 man lost their lives, right now Mexico specially is targeting USA citizens. There are travel restrictions in certain areas of Mexico. I myself will never go to the nothern states even when I blend in with the population. Mexicanos know we ain't from there so be careful.

I’ll die happily knowing I never stepped foot in that country

Have been a professional surfing photographer based in San Diego for 25 years. Unfortunately, crimes like this are very common in Baja. Theft, assaults, murders are part of the risk of surfing trips into Baja. It is a shame because the Baja people are wonderful and enjoy hosting traveling surfers. It is a beautiful landscape with amazing waves.

I have never been to and will never, ever go to Mexico. The cartels don’t need a motive to kill you.
