Boomerang in the comics respects flash. It's a much more interesting relationship. Imagine Boomer having a quiet moment for his fallen enemy. Instead of him pissing on his corpse.

15:41 One of the worst moments is when Batman's "I am vengeance, I am the night. I am Batman" quote is turned into a repetitive catchphrase even though it was something the DCAU version of him said once in one episode of the animated series and Arkham Batman only said at the end of Knight.

Boomer ranger pissing on flash lis like Joker taking a shit on Jason Todd. No one wants to see that, it’s just gross.

One thing I'd like to mention about the game that I don't think I've heard people talk about, is how it depicted Brainiac. I thought the design was kind of interesting and I really love Jason Isaacs as the voice actor, but the dialogue and portrayal was really weird. Since when does Brainiac want to restore Colu? What he wants in the comics is to collect worlds in order to enhance his knowledge. His home planet is irrelevant to him. That felt more like something General Zod would do. Also my problem with his dialogue was that it felt too casual and often funny, when Brainiac is supposed to be cold and calculating.
  • What’s crazy is both Gotham knights and this game could’ve been way better(maybe) if they switched studios, rocksteady keeps Arkham family , WB get live service suicide squad
  • @jimmyoakmeister
Damn. Even Injustice 2 introduced Brainiac early and had him show up multiple times in the story to talk to others

In terms of tone, the game definitely has Family Guy syndrome. Constant joke after joke while also wanting to have emotional scenes, but is simultaneously too scared to commit to any, so they're all just punctuated with a (99% of the time shitty) joke. They're trying to have their cake & eat it too, which just doesn't work, especially in the context of the damn Arkham-verse. 💀

To me something that sticks out is that the whole "Stop an apocolyptic threat, save the world" isn't what the Suicide Squad does. They're meant to be a black ops team doing high risk missons for ARGUS and Waller's agenda. That's one of the things the 2020 film did better than the 2016 one; sure it did end in a battle with Starro, but setting him loose was an accident and Waller wanted the Squad to infiltrate the lab it was imprisoned in and obtain a file Waller wanted to squash. I've said it in comments for other videos but what might have been a better move for an arkhamverse Suicide Squad game would be to consider returning to the TITAN formula; it was the big thing with Asylum, while not as prominent it had a notable role in City and even in Origins Project TN-1 was clearly a precursor to TITAN. So perhaps someone who was working to clean up after the Aslyum disaster, found Joker's notes from his experiments (not Dr Young's notes, but presumably Joker had to write some stuff down when he was perfecting the formula), and because that's where Venom comes from, these notes ended up in Santa Prisca. So Waller sends the Suicide Squad into Santa Prisca, to fight maybe Bane's mercenaries, maybe Kobra, maybe even there's a whole host of different villainous organisations fighting for control over the TITAN, including a late game reveal that, rather than Waller playing the Batman role of trying to stamp out TITAN, she wants to get her hands on the perfected formula to use for ARGUS' interests. Going with Santa Prisca would also afford the "map devoid of non enemy NPC's" thing the Arkham Games tend to do, without a madnatory curfew, evacuation or the entire population of Metropolis being killed off, since like Asylum it'd be a prison on an island (it'd kinda be a return to roots for the Arkham games)

I think one of the worst problems about the story is a common one that happens to any story with the "smartest person in the world/universe" trope. Brainiac is not smart. Normally, he would want to bottle up cities or entire planets to add to his collection which also adds to his knowledge, while casting aside anything irrelevant. When done right, Brainiac is a formidable opponent because he will pursue this goal until it has been proven that he is outmatched, and he'll just leave to regroup and come back. Changing his motivation from this and making it so that he wants to build a new Colu isn't necessarily bad, but now we need to know why Earth is so special. There are countless planets which would have been closer to Colu and more closely resembling Colu, so why not choose any of those? The real problem is introduced when we find out he has access to multiversal travel. Like, hey forehead, if you wanted to bring back Colu and you can access the multiverse why not just find a dimension that has it and go there, or just pull it into our dimension? It's nonsensical at this point to invade Earth when there are easier and better decisions available for him. Even if he still maintained his original motivation, it would still be stupid of him to pursue the invasion of Earth as he did in the game. Once he discovers alternative universes, all with unique knowledge, he would simply try to take over each planet in each dimension on his own. Why involve twelve other versions of himself when he of all people should know that he isn't trustworthy? Every single one of them would want to kill the others and collect all of that knowledge for themselves. This points us to the foundational problem of the game, though. The GaaS model directly pushes back against the story they wanted to tell. It became necessary at some point to make the story not make sense because there's no proper satisfying way to make the campaign stretch out for twelve seasons. If you don't fight Brainiac at the end, that would be disappointing, so we have to nerf him a little to be arrogant enough to not realize when the battle is lost. But if we kill him at the end of the game and that's the end of it, we still need a villain for the twelve seasons-- so we just have to make it be twelve Brainiacs. But, we also can't have them fighting each other because that messes with our story, so they inexplicably team up while also not really helping each other when one of them dies. At every turn there's just poor decision after poor decision, and I do truly believe it's because they wanted to make a battlepass/seasonal DLC model. The story could have been interesting if not impeded by that decision alone.
  • Seeing as how there's a multiverse and they wanted modern Harley, i think it would've been possible to introduce her as a multiverse variant from a universe where Batman died in Arkham city instead of Joker and the latter entered a depression and became more agressive, Harley realised Joker didnt love her and left him and then teamed up with the Bat family to take him down and became somewhat reformed (not without her regrets though, after all she killed a bunch of people), i imagine she'd be introduced at 1/3 of the campaign and would acompany the squad for a bit trying to reform base Harley, but failing as she would betray the squad because of Brainiac crearly false promise of bringing back Joker, Waller explodes the bomb in her head and she gets replaced by variant Harley, ultimately she'd die for someone that never loved her, turning her into a somewhat tragic character and an irredimible Harley compared to other versions
  • @mitch4672
They really just try to follow dceu harley from margo robby,. She even states that she "hates" joker and is angry with her ex and such.. it doesn't at all fit with the arkham continuity
  • @LucasHopkins2006
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this should’ve been a Teen Titans game, cause first off I feel like we need more Teen Titans outside of comics and it feels like DC has been pushing the Suicide Squad way too much lately (I could swear DC has been pushing them more than the freaking Justice League), but aside from that, I don’t buy for a second that this Squad could ever beat a mind controlled Justice League meanwhile the Teen Titans definitely could’ve when they’ve got members that can counteract the League, just look at Wally West, plus if we were fighting a mind controlled League as the Titans then we could’ve saved them instead of killing them in their first appearance in this universe (and in Batman’s case, his big reappearance), and maybe the final battle could’ve allowed us to play as the League by bringing back Batman’s Arkham Knight play style, and giving Superman, Flash, and Wonder Woman the same as Superboy, Wally West, and Wonder Girl (not sure about Green Lantern though (edit:after my brother brought it up, maybe they could do that for Green Lantern with Blue Beetle, I mean the Scarab functions somewhat similarly to a Green Lantern ring so…)), and if we absolutely have to have at least one League member die then have Batman sacrifice himself to defeat Brainiac so he gets a more respectable ending
  • Injustice 2 did the brainiac storyline so much bettter I feel they tried to fit Arkham’s nostalgia into something that wasn’t made to be an Arkham game.the game honestly would’ve fit better if they treated this storyline as an alternate ending to injustice 2 and connected it to that
  • @Herowebcomics
These are important issues! It being in it's own universe would have fixed everything! I would still hate to see the Justice League get killed, but it would be better then what we got!
  • @chrisdiokno5600
Apparantly Deadshot is both is and is not a "fake". Its revealed one of the two Deadshots was from another Earth
  • @RacingSnails64
Great video. The Arkham connection is completely unnecessary, and Brainiac being shown earlier and showing the Squad what the League is going through could have been used to make their deaths more respectful. Great points 👍
  • 9:20 AVGN put it best in a video where a game reveals a legendary boss in the room before you fight him. He compared the ridiculousness to if Zelda64 revealed Ganondorf right before you fight him, because it might as well be another random enemy
