Welcome to my first-time watching as we react to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006). The spectacular follow up to 2003s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. This has been such a fun experience so far! The worldbuilding, lore, set pieces and memorable performances were all top notch!

In "Dead Man's Chest," Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on a quest to settle his debt with the legendary Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). Jack, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) return as they navigate treacherous waters, encounter mythical sea creatures, and face the notorious Flying Dutchman.

This film was filled with thrilling action sequences, stunning visual effects, and unforgettable characters. The biggest surprise though was that heart-pounding Kraken attack sequence. We also got some epic sword fights that double down on the epic swashbuckling fun we loved in the first film.

We hope that you enjoy our reactions, commentary and review as we discuss the fantastic score, great action sequences, our amazement with the CGI and how the entire "Flying Dutchman" crew looked and why we believe Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is a worthy follow up that keeps the spirit that we enjoyed from the first film while trying new things.

the fact that most modern movies can't compete with 2006 Davy Jones CGI
  • @phoenix00717
I guess the cast member's reactions were real because they were never told that Geoffrey Rush would come back as Captain Barbossa
  • 1:03:55 Will's and Elizabeth's reactions to Jack's "I got a jar of dirt" were Orlando's and Keira's real reaction on set because Johnny Depp made that line up on the spot, and the director decided to leave it in
  • God, I will never get over how great the CGI on Davy Jones looks. Looks realistic, but still allows the actor to portray a vast array of emotions.
  • Johnny & Orlando will always be the dynamic duo of these 3 movies
  • I love the “respect” of Elizabeth and William about the fact he is CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow 😂 I just found it funny
  • It's cool when someone in the audience recognizes and understands a language that most didn't. "That's turkish!"
  • @jkramer302
Fun fact! Davey Jones is entirely CGI mocap! Watching behind the scenes footage of Bill Nighy playing Jones is fantastic.
  • @whitediggity
I say, “Do ye fear death?” In Jones’ voice almost daily lol

Davy Jones is one of my top 10 favorite movie villains of all-time. Bill Nighy's performance is phenomenal, the CGI on him holds up to this day, and he's the type of villain who's not exactly sympathetic but you kinda feel sorry for him when you get his full backstory.
  • This movie truly changed cinematography, vfx and soundtracks in Hollywood Still remember watching it in the theatres, it was truly magical, and we had never seen CGI like this before
  • Sacrificing rum is a sacrilege for pirates. The whole crew was deadass considering dying instead of giving up rum 😂
  • @Hard-R-Energy
Yeah, the compass pointing at Jack for Elizabeth was because Jack was the key to getting Will back. The fact that she was surprised by the compass's direction and even feeling weirded out by it, tells me that she doesn't have those feelings for him.
  • I’m kinda surprised this DISNEY movie, with a PG-13 rating actually got away with showing a crow eating somebody’s eyeballs. They must have had balls back then.

I saw "At World's End" in the theater three or four times and within minutes of that first viewing, I knew I was watching a masterpiece of filmmaking that took me by surprise. Barbossa is a character that I had sympathy with. He's portrayed as the "villain" in the original, but because being under a curse for 13 years, hunger unsatisfied, thirst unsatisfied. What lengths would you go to to end it and does that make you "evil"? In "At World's End", you meet Barbossa, the man. Still a pirate, of course, but a man freed from the curse and that movie made him my favorite. Plus, Geoffrey Rush is awesome!
  • @nitrokid
Bill Nighy was so brilliant as Davy Jones 😂 His character design and CGI was... chef's kiss
  • Cant wait for At worlds end, that movie was Endgame before Endgame was Endgame
