Yes, it absolutely does matter. There's a reason we paint the top of everything here white, duh.
-
I have a white car and a black car, and let me tell you, the white car cools down much faster, great for summer, while the black one keeps heat better and is great for winter.
-
I thought that was common knowledge SMH lol
-
How did it go from a gray car to a black car back to a gray car?
-
For future reference, maybe use the same car model but in different colors, as the model of car may have an impact on the results
-
Should have had the same car in the two colors. There are other variables, like the different rakes of the windshields
-
Basic science. Would’ve been great if the reporter included how we see color and why. Same is true regarding the color clothes you wear. That’s why Obama wore that tan suit in the summer that caused a complete meltdown of the idiots on Fox News.
-
I’m sorry- you say “ more white cars are sold all the time” but the graph at 2:27 has a Black line higher than White. Is the graph mislabelled?
-
I had a white car with ceramic tinted windows and vent visors, the trifecta makes a huge difference when it’s parked in the hot sun all day at work.
-
Both interiors were black so maybe that is why they were equally hot.
-
Different models and even different trims of the same car can have differences in the insulation of the roof. Repeat the test with the same make, model, year AND trim of vehicle.
-
Very informative! It’s like I never was sure about this. Now I can cool off.

Yes

Did you check those thermometers next to each other to make sure they measure the same temperature? I have one like that and it says in the manual that the temperatures on the outside sensor can be different than the inside sensor even sitting next to each other.
-
He measured the center console of one being bright grey and the other one was black. Of course the black was hotter. What the heck?
-
I purchased a custom fit windshield sunshade for my car. Dramatically reduced heat versus universal fit sunshades. Looking into getting side window shades.
-
Old wives' tale? You mean science?
-
This is the reason why many UPS drivers are more like to faint during delivery than FedEx and USPS drivers since the vans are mostly colored white while UPS is very dark brown.
-
Because the colour black absorbs all light and mixes the rays of colour into black, whereas the colour white is the absence, (not UV rays) reflecting all light and the rays of all colours! It’s Basic Grade 9 Science!

Nice report.
