Polo Ralph Lauren wasn’t originally meant for the hip-hop community until the Lo-Lifes, a crew of Brooklyn teenagers, adopted the label and made it their own in the late ‘80s. It exploded in the streets and by the ‘90s, Polo was an inescapable part of hip-hop culture, from music videos to magazine covers. Despite the sometimes rocky relationship between the vastly different worlds, Polo has become an integral component of the hip-hop community for the last three decades. An all-star line up including A$AP Ferg, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Tyson Beckford, Daymond John, Raekwon, Dapper Dan, Fonzworth Bentley, Michaela Angela Davis and more share their first-hand insights on the legendary brand’s connection to the culture in Complex's documentary, "Horse Power."

Polo will never die out. Never.
  • Polo is about the only fashion brand that has a line for every tax bracket. You can be a working class person raising a family and can afford to by your children polo outfits for school and not break the bank. Then as your income bracket goes up there is a polo fashion line for you. If only our fashion designers could understand this concept.

Polo Ralph Lauren is the craziest fashion brand in the world for me. Its the most universal brand there is. I have seen people from every age, from every country, from every social demographic, from every race wear it. There is nothing like it.

Black and brown folks have historically never been included in anything high end yet we're the ones who give cultural value to these brands. Great documentary.

Hands down this is the best documentary everrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! I recently (2018) just got into POLO because of my older brother. I was always a TH Guy, but I was in Macy's waiting on my wife to hurry up, (which she never did, LoL) and I tried on a Polo Rugby, and it felt so bloody premium mate, I was like I have to have this. Bought it and I've been buying and wearing POLO ever since. No 70 pieces later, Im still trying to build my collection... But I went another route too, I not only purchased from Macy's that day, that weekend I called my guy at TD Ameritrade and I purchased some RL Stock. Now its like Im paying myself to shop at POLO. #dreambig #PRL #winning

  • @fritz62196
Same thing is happening with Supreme now, except the difference is that Polo never chased the hype,, it came organically
  • Why can't Complex make more content like this!?! This is for the CULTURE right here!!! Younger folks need this type of exposure and documentary to understand why certain things like POLO are in the hip hop culture. This and Magnum Opus are quality content from Complex that needs to produce more of .

  • 0:50 I had that rugby ten years ago. Damn, that brings back memories kid. I gave it away to a brother I knew that his son just came home and didn’t have any gear along with some other things so he could look fresh while getting his start.

It's dope that Ralph Lauren is finally paying respect to the Lo Lifes now. One reason I love Polo is Ralph built Polo from nothing into an empire. Just hard work
