Hi friends!
Every self-respecting cyclist, from time to time, asks the same question, "Why is my bike so hard to ride?"
I pedal as hard as I can, but my bike is so hard to get up to speed.
Even if I'm riding on a flat road and there is no headwind, my bike rides very hard. Today I will show you one secret that makes your bike slow.
If your bicycle bottom bracket is serviced in time, your bicycle will become faster.
This video communicates through mechanics, not words. Language barriers are irrelevant; presented as a DIY tutorial.
This video is designed to cater to the interests of cycling enthusiasts.

The closeup of the dirt coming out was a work of art well done 👍

Once the bearing races are worn and pitted, you can clean all day and it won't help. Those bottom brackets cost peanuts. Much better to replace it.

You should remove the dust caps while the bb is still in the frame. No need for box cutters. Insert the end of the spindle and rotate in a big circle and the dust caps will pop straight out with no damage.

I love how it says "DO NOT DISASSEMBLE" in big letters and you just keep going with the official shimano knifes and screwdriver equipment 😂

Nice DiY example. Now I know what I have to aspect. Good bright video with close records, I love that. Most videos are dark and see no details. But here you made it perfekt with patience.

Bearings damaged by sand will not be repaired even by lubricating them.

Though I've already seen a similar comment, these BB's retail at 22€ in the shop where I work. The labour charge to perform such an overhaul would come out at more than that, plus the consumables. Then you have to factor in the likelihood that, by the time the customer brings it in, the bearing surfaces would be worn and pitted anyway, so the result would probably be marginal at best. When you were done, at the end of the video- you could hear that the surfaces were pitted and worn- I would have given a big thumbs down. That was certainly not something that we could warranty with any confidence. It's nice to recycle, but for a business this sort of repair is simply not economically viable. If a home mechanic wants to have a go at it, that is a different matter entirely. Same opinion exactly when you overhauled a 15€ VP sealed BB.
  • They come sealed brand new for 16-18 euro’s The labour in servicing them exceeds replacing them. Apart from that Shimano states “do not disassemble”.

My labor rate is $100 an hour. These cost like $15-20 to replace. Not only is it not worth the time or trouble for the customer but it’s not worth it for the shop. Unless ceramic, sealed bearings get replaced.

  • Great example of how to not to do. Using stanley knifes way you did is such a bad idea.

Hello fellow, I´ve done these repairs also , but not on work. I´m an senoir mechanic with 27 years of dirty hands - and I solemnly swear that I will be fired from my work as the chief mechanic - doing all the stuff the other people in the shop will not !! Working and earning money in Germany are more seperated than ever in the last 30 years . Don´t believe the hype and ride your own repaired gear. This is the most effective way to learn. Why this seems to be from baltic area, I´m born hungarian from transsylvania. I´ve learned precise and accurate working skills from my father, who was a master tailor. That´s my 2 cent . Thanks

Respectable work. Is someone willing to pay for the work when a new Bearing set costs around 20 euros? You make good videos thank you!
  • @nurhollissam1501
I’m sure the cost of servicing bb is same as u purchase a new one 😅
