Guide to AKUREYRI + Going to the Christmas House and the OLDEST Church in Iceland

We started off at a coffee shop named Blaa Kannan in a very blue iconic building. Then, we just strolled around downtown to see the Akureyri Church, artwork, and other views.
Since it was too early for some places to be open yet, we went on a little excursion to the Christmas House. It's only a 15-minute drive from Akureyri. If you love Christmas, you'll love the Christmas House no matter the time of the year. We know we really enjoyed it and can only imagine how awesome it would be to go there around Christmas.
After we killed some time, we went thrift shopping in Akureyri to try and find some Icelandic wool sweaters. We both found one for ourselves for around $30 a piece! We also found some other interesting pieces we decided to take back as souvenirs.
Then it came to our favorite time of the day... lunch! We got some fish and chips and chicken and chips from Moe's Food Truck back in downtown of Akureyri. It was very tasty!
After we had some fuel, we went to the site of the oldest church in Iceland dating back to the 17th century. It has the iconic green turf roof and is in a beautifully serene location in the Icelandic countryside.
Last stop of the day was supposed to be a hidden hot spring called Fosslaug... but. it wasn't so hidden. There were a lot of people there waiting their turn to take a dip, so we didn't get in it. It wasn't all for nothing though! We got to see an incredible waterfall named Reykjafoss.
Our Airbnb for the evening was definitely off the beaten path, about 20 minutes back a gravel road, but so worth it! There were sheep, dogs, and a dome house! What more could you need? Since it was so out in the country, we were hoping we would catch the Northern Lights. Sadly, that didn't happen but maybe next time!

Wow! you guys did so much. I think that will be a problem with us. We have so many things planned in our itinerary haha was there many sites where you had to walk a long way or was most pretty close to parking?
-
What time of the year did you guys visit Akureyri? We’re planning our trip in mid September, we’re just curious about the amount of sunlight.

Wow! The lighting isn’t the only thing that’s not that bright. Yes, if you go upstairs, there’s generally an upstairs. You guys seem so stoned. But I love it.
