Transcript:

Keiji Inafune wasn't solely responsible for creating Mega Man - character designs were already underway when Inafune joined Capcom. He is, however, responsible for Zero who he intended to be the main character in Mega Man X before the idea was shot down by Capcom brass.

Characters drawn by Inafune pose with a W-shaped hand gesture because the number four means death in Japanese, so characters have their ring and middle fingers clasped together, which gives the illusion of three fingers.

Because of hardware limitations, Capcom reverse-designed Mega Man by creating a pixel character that read well against Famicom rendered backgrounds. Inafune was then directed to translate those pixels into character art which became the Blue Bomber we know and love today.

Another couple you could add: Megaman's blue hue comes from the NES capabilities being able to have more shades of blue than any other color. Megaman was originally going to be named "Rainbow Battle Kid" because of his color changes when using different power-ups.

fast fact: Capcom apparently doesnt give a crap about Megaman anymore :(
  • Fast Fact - Megaman (and his successors) has starred in countless fighting games and has fought characters from the SNK, Capcom, Marvel, Bandia Namco (they changed their name recently), Tatsunoko, Sega, and in the near future Nintendo (and Konami if Snake returns) universe. Megaman has fought street fighters, regular fighters, demons, gods, demigods, god slaying angels, superheroes, Japanese superheroes, the embodiment of darkness, half naked anime high school girls, Pikachu (eventually), dictators, zombies, a journalist wearing his attire and pretty much anything you can imagine, have fun.

I spent most of my childhood making up Megaman X mavericks. Its a fun madlib almost; pick and animal and a thing or verb, then do it 7 more times. Did anyone else do that?
