MLMs: That awkward moment when a customer gets brainwashed into thinking they're a business owner.

Not me reading the title and trying to figure out what girlboss has to do with men loving men

"We get chocolates, we get roses, we get jewelry; we just get loved on!" Losing my mind over this woman perfectly describing "love bombing" without REALIZING that that's what she's describing.

I had a friend who is deep into Arbonne. She texted me on a Friday asking if I wanted to hang out that weekend. I was in the process of flying to where my family lives, because my grandmother was on her literal deathbed and given 72 hours to live. I told my friend that’s where I was going and what was going on. She texted me a couple days later, the day my grandmother died, and said “I know life is crazy right now but I really think you should consider Arbonne’s 30 days to healthy living program”. I’ll never forget it, and saying the MLM’ers take advantage of you when you’re vulnerable is 100% true. You can’t get more vulnerable than texting someone THE DAY they lost a loved one.

The "husband unawareness plan" part. What the? This is disturbing. These women are basically ruining marriages by breaking down trust between spouses. Disgust.

The "Husband's Oath" is disturbing but hilarious. This shit is SO manipulate.

I'm still angry at my parents for taking me to an mlm cult meeting ON my birthday. Sadly it was not the last pyramid scheme they fell for.

MLM is so confusing because I keep reading it as Men loving Men. LoL.

I don't get directly contacted by MLM people very often (they don't seem to target guys), but my twin sister keeps losing friends to them. She's directly in their demographic - straight white married woman in her thirties. She'll get a message from a friend she hasn't heard from in a while and get excited to reconnect with them, only for them to try to recruit her into their downline. It's happened at least eight times now. She hates MLMs with a white hot fury because of it. They turn your friends into dollar signs and encourage you to leverage your friendships in order to exploit them and potentially even ruin their lives.

I'm so glad more people are bringing attention to this. I almost got roped into an MLM during my senior year in HS by one of my teachers (somebody I really trusted). She wasn't one of the consultants but her friend was. She even set up a meeting for us. They made it sound like this great opportunity. They knew I was trying to get into a university but was struggling financially. I was so naive I believed everything they said. Thankfully before I was about to invest all of my savings, I discussed it with my significant other who proceeded to tell me what an MLM is. The shame I felt for letting those people manipulate me was overwhelming.

i know a 14 year old that was trying to sell beach body and she would take before and after pics of herself of the weight loss and say that her mom was gonna kill her if she didn’t sell all of her stock. it was so sad to watch.

You might enjoy Danny Gonzalez’s video “can I give someone a free car without ruining their life”. It’s not specifically about MLMs but it does go into how “free” gifts like a Mercedes ends up being a detriment to the recipient’s life

These “consultants” don’t realize that they’re the actual customers. Not their family and friends who they try to sell these products to.

MLMs are a drain on society. I encourage anyone who is against them to join the anti-MLM movement! We've gotta get these scams taken down.

I miss the days when Avon and Mary Kay were the only MLMs I knew of. And I only knew 2 hunbots who weren't pushy because they had real jobs too. My Gramma's old hairdresser had Avon books in her waiting room and the Mary Kay seller I knew was also a wedding planner. Now I can't sign onto anything online without some "girlboss" trying to sell me laxative tea or gym clothes or some other shit I don't need/want lol
