Space Hulk - the greatest game ever made? Maybe, but most people won't know because it's been out of production for nearly a decade.

Vince Venturella and I made a game! Check out Reign in Hell - Demonic Skirmish Combat at www.reigninhellgame.com/

I'm now a partner on Twitch! I paint minis every Friday morning and Monday night, and sometimes take paint breaks (play video games poorly). Follow me: www.twitch.tv/tabletopminions

Adam owning Space Hulk since 2009 and not painting anything in it is classic Warhammer hobbyist right here

The game everyone wants that GW refuses to re-release. That being said, with enough graph paper and a rules pdf, space hulk will never die.

Great vid as always. The 'blip' system in Space Hulk is one of the best mechanics of any board game. It's perfectly thematic, gives the genestealer player a tactical toolset and creates much of the games tension.

With the new larger sculpts of terminators and gene stealers in 10th edition 40k, there should be ample opportunity for doing a new Space Hulk edition

I own a 2nd Edition copy and think it's one of the best GW games ever made. Not specifically 2nd Edition, but Space Hulk in general.

Space Hulk was my first GW game I bought back in 1989 for £20 I just walked into a GW shop and bought it! I currently own copies of the 2nd and 3rd editions. 2nd edition used to be the black sheep of the Space Hulk family but it has some interesting features which I feel should have been carried through to following editions. Although SH is a great game it does have its shortcomings; some of the layouts take a long time to put together and some of the missions can take a long time to play. I’d only be interested in buying a new copy of the game if it addressed these issues. SH is a work of genius and with a little tweaking could be even better in my opinion. It’s original creator Richard Halliwell passed away a couple of years ago I only hope he was aware how much pleasure his creation gave to so many people.

I'm pretty sure I made my videos from the 3rd edition. I really like the terminator sculpts =)

Space hulk third edition is the one game in my entire boardgame collection I will never sell. Love it.

I had the first edition, it was our second miniatures board game after my brother's Heroquest. It's what got me hooked on Genestealers. I wish the blip system was used in other GW games. I think they tried it in 8th ed GSC, I had the codex but never played.

This is the game that got me into the hobby, and it’s still my favorite! Execution Force and Deathwatch Overkill were also pretty good, but nothing beats Space Hulk. It’s insane that GW doesn’t keep something like this in stock constantly.

I've always wanted to get my hands on Space Hulk, but I have never been able to. Sadly, if GW released it now, it would be $300 and I still would be able to get it since almost 90% of every game GW releases is out of my price range.

FOMO is a very very strong tactic that many companies are using more and more these days. I have complete self awareness of it and even find myself desiring games that are out of print even moreso.
  • @stratagon
The timer mechanism from the first edition remains one of the best thematic rules of all boardgames.

I just bought STLs for modular spaceship corridor terrain to print 3d space hulk boards. You can also print your own counters and either buy/proxy terminator and genestealer models. It's just rules and missions that you have to own/find. I personally prefer 1st edition rules for a much tighter game, but then, unless you can find the even harder to come buy expansion rules/missions, you're pretty limited to nearly everything being clones of each other. That all said, one of the BIG advantages of the original box versions is those tiny little terminators means it's much easier to fit the board on a table. A board sized to modern terminator figures is a much, much larger footprint.

Yeah, I haven't painted my copy of 3rd ed Space Hulk either. But as a game, it is *so good*. The rules are simple, and the ticking clock during the Marine player turn can really ratchet the tension up.

I have an old 1st edition that never got painted. So I’m painting them right now.😁

I am so stinking excited about this video! I found a copy of “3.5” right before you dropped this Uncle A. I have wanted Space Hulk since I was in middle school way back in the 1900’s as my kids would say. Great game, great miniatures! Can’t wait to nip these heroes and baddies from their sprue!

In the late 1990s I recreated an entire first edition set (inc. Space Hulk, Deathwing, and Genestealer box sets & the Compendium book), and have over the years added Terminators and Hybrids with the various load outs. I also in the early 2000s (using 6mm Epic scale figs) created a magnetized "Travel Space Hulk" (for the 1st ed basic rules only) set with the pieces and markers able to be stored in an Altoids mints tin, and missions played on a metal cookie sheet (with the maps printed on 8.5"x11" paper).

I wish/hope they make a new edition soon. They have everything they need. New models for both teams. Just give us a new game already!

I have finally been working on my 3.5 editon copy. My advice, take your time with painting. Enjoy the process. You have one copy, make it awesome! And yes, it is a fantastic game!
