My Grandfather died a few years ago. He was in the Royal Navy and this was his song at his funeral. I always come back to this video when I think of him. RIP Grand x ❤
  • I’m a commercial fisherman from the south coast of England. When I returned home the other day I had seen that my mother filmed me coming into the harbour and put this song over the top. Might be the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen. Had me in tears❤️I love you mum

My family emigrated from Germany to the US when I was 10. I never quite felt at home there. When we visited my Oma in Germany when I was 15, I insisted that we bring my Rod Stewart album with me so that I could listen to Sailing, It reflected my homesickness for Germany.
  • I can never stop listening to this song. From age 24 to 63. It's in the top 10 hits by Rod Stewart. This song drifts me to a peaceful place. I love it.

'Sailing' is a timeless classic that always transports me to another place and time. The lyrics are so poetic and the melody is so captivating that it's impossible not to get lost in the song. Rod Stewart's voice is incredibly soulful and emotive, and he brings so much depth and feeling to every word. It's a song that speaks to the wanderlust in all of us and inspires us to set sail and chase our dreams. Thank you, Rod, for this beautiful and unforgettable masterpiece.👏:thanksdoc:

I just lost my dad to brain cancer. He couldn’t speak but could hear. He loved this music era and he loved his boats and navigating those waters. He wouldn’t let go during his passing so I played this song and he peacefully finally let go to be free from his suffering ...sailing home across the sea to be near lord and to finally be free to be with him....😢💔 🕊 ⛵️🌊. It was the perfect song for my dad. R.I.P.

  • I am sailing I am sailing Home again 'Cross the sea I am sailing Stormy waters To be near you To be free I am flying I am flying Like a bird 'Cross the sky I am flying Passing high clouds To be near you To be free Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Through the dark night, far away I am dying, forever crying To be with you, who can say Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Through the dark night, far away I am dying, forever crying To be with you, who can say? We are sailing, we are sailing Home again 'Cross the sea We are sailing Stormy waters To be near you To be free Oh, Lord, to be near you, to be free Oh, my Lord, to be near you, to be free Oh, my Lord, to be near you, to be free Oh, Lord

This song was played at my mom's funeral. She didn't have many wishes in life but this was her wish :( rest in peace. I miss you so much.
  • @tlaugeness
My mother requested this song be played at her funeral in 2003 at age 57 due to cancer. It is a very spiritual song if you listen closely to the lyrics. She died at night with us all around her so every time I her "through the dark night far away" i think of her flying away through the dark night far away to be near God, to be free of her pain.
