I just finished nursing school last year April…and I already feel like my brain is rotting away…the feeling of not intentionally learning something …just like how intense it was during school… I’m feeling motivated to learn something because of this video… maybe Spanish because I have so many patients in this community

I love this! I graduated with my BS from UCLA in 2015 and after working for 5 years and doing what I thought was my dream job, I went to law school in 2020 at 27!
  • I finished my master's last year and I ended up feeling the same way! While I only did it in order to recieve a raise at my job, I found that I really enjoy learning and being in a classroom community setting! I would love to take a japanese course!

Miki's 5 reasons to keep learning as an adult 1. competence leads to confidence (charisma = competence + warmth) 2. it sparks new ideas and opportunities 3. it changes your perspective 4. it keeps your brain active and healthy (use it or lose it!) 5. it helps you stay connected to your community keep learning, keep growing <3

Thank you for the video! Whether enhancing language or refining tech skills, it's always worthwhile. Your growth in nursing by staying updated and working is inspiring. I'm learning cooking skills. Best of luck with Japanese classes! 😊

I resonated with this sooo much and it really helped me! I graduated with my BSN in 2018 as well. I applied and got into a couple BSN-DNP psych NP program, and got an amazing scholarship for the program I chose. Unfortunately, I suddenly got very sick and my life completely stopped. I am determined to return to work remotely by the end of the year, but I want to be able to work a full year before going back to school. Over the time of being the patient, I’ve realized I do not want to be an NP at all and I’m highly considering changing career paths. Although, I am super interested in nursing informatics thanks to my IS/IT husband 😂 I miss learning so badly. And you just opened my perspective of ”going back to school.” There are endless opportunities and It doesn’t have to be nursing related! I still plan to go back for informatics or a career change, but in the mean time I could do something related to things I really want to learn about. I apologize for the long comment, but this video really hit me hard in a good way! Miki, I appreciate how much you share and the variety of things you talk about.

Speaking from someone who is also from the bay area and having studied nursing at Arizona State university I can finally appreciate my education at a similar level as you. I'm 21 years old and honestly I'm think of pursuing elementary education and perhaps pursue nursing later on in life. I had to stand up to a lot of people and really voice my thoughts and opinions even if it hurt the other person. I learned that I can't preserve everyone's feelings. I want to have the courage and confidence to continue living life happily while keeping good relationships with people. I also struggled to sign up for an art class at a local community college. But I eventually figured it out with the help of my family :)

8:49 I totally get u! When I was younger, I did not care about college or have much interest in studying (although I did fine academically) but now I'm taking an online programming course and I'm the best student I've ever been and have so much genuine interest in actually learning and growing for my future. Crazy how things change.

Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts in this video. I’m 37 and I just went back to school for my Masters and I agree 100% The opportunity to continue learning is such a blessing! Enjoy every moment! 🤗

Ahh this was so fun to watch and sparked inspiration in me! I am half Japanese (born near Osaka and moved to US when I was 6) and want to improve my Japanese as I have lost it over the years. When I go back to visit my family I feel self conscious of how I communicate. My school goals are school nurse credential, masters in public health, and Japanese school!
  • @maplemilky
Miki san, this is great! I’m working on my 3rd language too. This is so cool! I keep telling my mother never to stop learning English because it stimulates her brain. She lives in Japan.
  • @honeydeww6270
i have never resonated with a video more. thank you for being so vulnerable and honest with us <3
  • @lynninfinite
Her email really did have good intentions! And on the other perspective, would you want an FNP treating patients with one 1 year of experience in one unit? 😅
  • @imthrillz5255
That instructor’s email was very good advice. The NP profession is full with naive nurses who have 3 months of experience, lol. Not to mention the over saturation is stagnating NP salary and it is very common for RNs to get paid more than NPs with less responsibilities and better work life balance.
  • This is a great video! I subscribed back then when you were going to school. I got my associates degree a bit ago to become a certified vet tech. This year I want to study more, and finally take the VTNE. Especially the math stuff, I suck at math lol
  • @allisonmak471
I really enjoyed this video. You have a lot of insight. I love the honesty & vulnerability!!
  • @lynninfinite
You’re so wholesome! My commitment to learning is by reading nonfiction books, not necessarily self-help books but studies, scientific research, things like that.
  • @karitosv9398
I'm so happy for you! I agree with you that learning keeps our brain active and functioning better. I'm graduating this Spring semester with a bachelor's degree in Human Services, Mental Health. For this reason, I have learned that nourishing our souls and boosting our brains with meaningful things in life can help us have good mental health. I enjoyed watching your video because it motivated me to continue learning and thinking about applying for a master's program. Also, as you said, it's good to rethink what things we really need to learn to help us move forward. Thank you so much, Miki!!! 💖
  • yeah continuously learning gives meaning to life, it's very fulfilling. I'm a physician and just finished a neurology residency, and clinical neurophysiology fellowship last summer. Felt the same way, hitting a plateau. So I started a personal finance YouTube channel to learn about scripting, filming, editing. Currently taking the real estate salesperson prerequisite courses to take the real estate licensing test in May to get a CA real estate license to be my own buyer's agent when buying our first home. Some time in the future, going to save up tuition money and go to an online law school to learn more about law, not necessarily practice law.
