"Remember The Future Part 1" by Nektar (Playthrough/Cover)

Published 2020-11-07
Recorded and Produced at Moving Blanket Studio.

This version covers the bulk of Remember The Future: Part One off side A of the original amazing album by Nektar from 1973.

I recorded the main acoustic guitar in one take, then added a second guitar track to fill in some voids, punched in/edited a couple of overdubs on mistakes, and sang the vocal tracks (not featured in the video).

This was a long recording for me to navigate through because the song is of course so long. I recorded each part while listening to the original song on headphones- something I haven't done before for "Moving Blanket" purposes. I made a few mistakes in the battle to stay focused. The end result to me almost sounds like faux "isolated tracks" that are sometimes found on sites like this one.

  • Had a 60+ man tell me how his dad broke this album over his knee for the guy playing it too loud. Guy said he went to the record joint the next day and bought two more copies (prob for less than $4 a copy), picked it up at a flea market for the cover alone (looked like something that’d suit me) and didn’t touch it for months. When I finally spun this album it was life changing. Progressive rock will never be the same to me. Very reinforcing to see someone take on a challenge like covering this song, and above all else, great to see this music being appreciated by people today. (Did you know Nektar has credited a psychologist on their album recycled for mental assistance?) You just won’t get that nowadays! Signing off - Midwestern 20 something in search of reality. Thank you.
