1973年にその役割が終了し1976年に廃車となったが1985年に小樽築港機関区で復元工事が開始され、1988年4月から1995年11月まで復活走行し多くの鉄道ファンを楽しませた。
Steam locomotive C62 Type 3 was built in 1948.
It operated in Hokkaido from 1956 and was retired in 1973.
Restoration work began in 1985 and the train was in service from April 1988 to November 1995.

A beautiful start, with no wheel slip, of a very pretty lady. She's even more beautiful doing her thing out in the countryside. The mountains and valleys are a perfect complement to her lines.

昭和の最後の夏、最高の景色の中を走る最大型機C62の勇姿、実際に見たかったな。C57やD51などと共に全国的に復活して欲しいです！日本の機関車は無駄が無く様式美が感じられて美しいが、警笛まで哀愁が感じられる。こんなに綺麗で鮮明な映像は他に知らないし丁度優れたビデオカメラが普及していった時代だから可能だったのだろう。NHKでもこんな記録映像は無いので関心しました。😊

C62って北海道のみ！で廃止しないで復活でずっと走ってもらいたい。私は群馬県なので高崎駅に復活してあるC61とD51も走って見えます。

ジャーナルの軸焼け、ボイラーのステー、台枠・・・けっこう致命的な事を聞きますが、なんとかメンテがわかる人が生き残っているうちにOHして、山線廃止前に走って欲しいです。いくら軌道破壊してもそのまま廃線ならOKだしｗ 撮影者から金取ってでもやって欲しい。
