Some people might criticize me for watching this movie dubbed, so I want to address it beforehand. I've heard that the English dub voice actress for Shoko, Lexi Marman, is deaf in real life. For me, watching the scenes where Shoko struggled to speak due to her speech impediment felt like a more authentic experience. Additionally, I filmed this reaction at 1 am (which is why I am wearing my pyjamas, lol) and was too tired to read subtitles. I wish those in the anime community who criticize others for watching subbed or dubbed would stop. Neither is the "right way" to watch anime; it's just a matter of personal preference. I hope y’all enjoy the video and check out the video sponsor Dossier!💖 dossier.co/
  • As a deaf person who was constantly bullied from preschool through college, I would never give my hearing aids or my cochlear implants to ANYONE because I knew they wouldn't take care of them. Hearing aids are $4,000 to $10,000 a pop (PER AID), and cochlear implants (without the surgery) are $30,000 each (because insurance won't cover them), and I would totally charge someone for property theft and damage if anything happened to my devices

The blonde girl is literally my least favourite character in this whole movie and it’s the same way for a lot of other people. Because she never even acknowledges how she also used to partake in the bullying. She always played the victim and blamed everyone else. She’s so infuriating!! Also YESSS Wolf Children was probably the first anime movie I watched and it was back when you could post full on anime episodes and movies on YouTube. It made me cry so much it’s such a good and impactful movie. I also love Whisker Away too! All of these movies are my favourites along with Ghibli movies, so even if you can’t post reactions to them I still recommend you watch them because your life will change I swear.
  • The worst part is that Ishida's first instinct when he saw Nishimiya wasn't to bully her. He was actually willing to be friends or at least learn sign language. But because Ueno was annoyed by Nishimiya, he started mistreating her, nobody tried to stop him and one thing led to another........

As someone whose brother has suicidal idealization due to social anxiety and bullying the character of Shoya made me bawl out for an hour and a half, I'm so glad my little brother has me so he can count on me whenever it troubles him

I don't usually cry watching movies, but with this I was an entire ocean 😭
  • This movie is so special because where other movies would take the route of villanizing the bully and saying there's nothing good to him, they show that he's a person just as much as the victim. He's not necessarily a bad person, he just made bad decisions. I also like the inclusion of Ueno because it shows that while some people can change, others can't.

I think Shoko's mother slapped Shoya's mother really hard that it was enough for her earring to be ripped off her ear and in some Reddit posts they say that it’s in exchange for Shoko’s hearing aids, an eye for an eye. And also movie recommendation, Maquia: When the promised flower blooms.

I'm only like 5 minutes into the video, but I can already tell I'm not prepared to re-watch the ending scene when the X's drop-- I'm getting my own box of kleenex for this 🙏🏻🙏🏻

"Wolf children" " A whisker away" OH MU GOSH I SWEAR THERE ANIME ARE MAKE ME CRY OCEAN OUT OF ME😭😭😭
  • @darkangel220a
When shoko tried to confess her feelings “The moon is beautiful, isn't it?” could mean “I love you” in Japanese. It can be used to express romantic feelings indirectly,

As someone who was bullied in elementary school and who reunited with my bully a few years after this movie hits home, cause she fr tries everyday to make up for all the trauma and it’s one of the most healing experiences to see a bully grow and make up for their mistakes

I remember watching this in Japanese dub, and was a kid. Now years later, your finally watching it. Looking forward you too watch The Amazing Digital Circus 😉 you go queen 💙✨
  • @Chillpill4930
3:39 She was mouthing the words on purpose so Shoko would get it wrong. I hate this character because she may have apologized but she never admitted to straight up bullying like the others.

Hi Rukiya! This is a great movie. As a deaf kid growing up, I faced a lot of bullies, as did Shoko. There's also another hint about Deaf culture: eye contact is a way to connect with others, so if you break eye contact, it's considered rude; this is a nice touch of the main character to finally make eye contact toward the ending.

as someone who has watched this anime multiple times i still cry every time , it means so much to me and i really enjoyed ur reaction.
  • @purely_mish8708
I’m not sure if someone already mentioned this but the part where Shouko confesses to Shoya, the reason he thought she said the moon is because in Japanese moon and love are very similar. Hope that helps and amazing reaction love you ❤️❤️

The anime series A Sign of Affection also centers around a deaf protagonist, but it's a slice-of-life and very wholesome series so it's not likely to ever leave you an emotional wreak unless you're prone to sweetness overload. I recommend the sub though to start so you don't miss what any text says since it tends to be relevant a lot of the time.
