I didn't realize Opera Mini servers were still up and running! Like someone else pointed out, they process webpages on their servers and send the processed data to the recipient, saving a ton of bandwidth in the process. I remember the days when Opera Mini was my daily driver. I'd a Nokia 3120 Classic, 3G was brand new (at least in my country), Blackberries were hip and cool, cellular data was expensive (I used to pay like 0.25c for 50MB of data on my prepaid SIM), and I was still proficient with T9 touch typing. Can't say I miss those days, though I wouldn't mind reliving them!

20 years old,. but none of the 2024 phone can compete it for beautiful look and elegance..

I'm 5 minutes into video, so maybe you will mention it later, but you are not evaluating Blackberry. You are evaluating Opera browser from 2006. And Opera is different from other browsers, because it uses Opera servers for processing the web pages and returns the processed data back to user.

This was my first phone when I started as an IT engineer 😁

Oh gosh, FUTRET!!!! You sir, just brought back a bunch of middle-school Futret nostalgia for me.

I recently did same on 17 years old Nokia E63 but this one is older.

Nice Video! (what sim card did you use to get the 2G GPRS working in 2024?)
  • Its crazy how we take old technology for grsnted some things were way ahead of its time or good at the time. In 100 years i imagine how fast and how far wifi can go 😮

Opera mini the only browser I know back then where you can upload photos on Facebook, creates Gmail account using generic java phone when you don't have computer
  • I love Opera Mini for java, especially those with HandlerUI(modded by Handler).
  • Back then this would have been one of the best phones to to Internet browsing. But one Question, can it run Doom? 😂

I had a few BBs back in the day. Hated to see them go under.

I suprised that Operas caching servers still is up! Used Opera a lot back in the days!
  • Wow pretty capable for what it is. Btw. where do you still have GPRS? There is 2G in UK and almost whole EU, but Edge only. Last time I have seen my phone catch GPRS was in like 2015.
