Published 2024-06-22
Former Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham player Kevin Nolan is our special guest on No Tippy Tappy Football.

Kevin Nolan sits down alongside Sam Allardyce & Natalie Pike to talk everything from his time with Sam at Bolton & West Ham to how well England will do in the Euros.

The former West Ham coach talks about Jarrod Bowen's impact off the bench for England, Southgate's Kalvin Phillips comment and why James McClean is wrong about Declan Rice.

Kevin and Sam then discuss their time together at West Ham and Bolton, The experience of coaching at West Ham with David Moyes, Trent's midfield experiment and if it was a mistake not taking Jack Grealish to the Euros.

They then talk in depth about Sam's starting XI for the upcoming Slovenia game as well as why Harry Kane needs players running off him and Southgate has made England too predictable.

Finally, Kevin and Sam give us their predictions for England vs Slovenia and Scotland vs Hungary before Kevin tells us about the time Sam pinned him up against a wall after training at Bolton.

Who would you start in England's crucial game against Slovenia?

  • Kevin was a proper footballer,no nonsense, good skipper with decent skills. Another great show

Southgate must know that the majority of fans & media want to see Foden at 10, Bellingham next to Rice as an 8 and then have pace down the left with Gordon. Saka & Kane can remain where they are and eventually Luke Shaw can come back in at left back. That is the ideal starting lineup. As players start to get tired in the second half, you can bring on people like Palmer for Foden, Eze for Gordon, Bowen for Saka, Wharton/Mainoo for Rice/Bellingham and even Trent for Walker. Not to mention Watkins for Kane when he gets too tired to run in behind. How hard is that to do??

  • Foden, Bellingham, Saka have had great club seasons but how much has it helped that they've been playing with exceptional players around them ?
  • @moulinyan
what kind of person plays a RB in CM, a RB who can spray passes, dictate play and create things and then summon the whole team to play at a very slow pace, let the opposition get back into positions etc. gareth needs to go yesterday.
  • What's the point of that big board if noone can read what's on it?
  • @thisisstevet
It’s Gordon on the left. Should have been there from game 1
  • @thisisstevet
He’s right about the ‘new words’ like ‘low block’. All bollocks!
  • @gohumberto
Allardyce was genius at getting the very best out of fairly average players. Tactically he just used common sense and played players in their best positions and made sure they did their job, nothing special, just do your job and give it 100%. It's exactly the opposite of what Southgate does. Southgate turns stars into average players and then plays them out of position. BUT just compare their managerial credentials. Southgate managed for just 3 seasons, relegated Middlesbrough, then got sacked. That's Southgate's CV before the FA came knocking at his door. Someone explain why the FA thought he was the man.
