When Midway and Netherrealm Studios create secret characters and send them forth into the unknown regions of gaming, Razor and Shad are appointed to review and discuss their history. A close friend of princess Kitana, Jade is faced with the choice of using knockoffs of her friend's fans or a weird solid neon lightsaber, as the Lost podcast talks about why.

I always attributed the Jade/Tanya rivalry as basically Jade is an Edenian patriot and loyalist, personal friend and protector to the royal family and Tanya is an Edenian Benedict Arnold. Tanya was a very high ranking diplomat attempting a coup against Sindel and Kitana. I don't think she needed a personal reason beyond that.

I'm glad you guys did the Jade retrospective. I wish she had more going for her character and story. One of the biggest missed opportunities with her is Jade vs. Smoke in the Living Forest as a nod to MK2. Had Jade and Smoke not been killed off in MK9, there could have been a unique interaction of some sort for future games. I love Jade's MK: Deception alternate costume, and I would have liked the oxtail hairstyle as an option for her in MK11. I really look forward to your next retrospective.

Hey guys did u know that Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade is named after a Black Sabbath song "Johnny Blade"

Great episode! In the Jade/Rain MKD Konquest sidequest has one more funny line. If you talk to Jade after the completion of the quest, she will say the following: "Purple? Rain chooses his wardrobe most curiously..."
  • The glowing green energy comes from certain bloodlines devoted to fighting in Mortal Kombat.
  • I always like to think Jade stayed behind in the Netherealm to organize and keep Shinnoks forces that are reserves in order. Still would be better to see her yes. But being a commanding officer holding back with reserves can make sense. The plot's a mess lmfao The reader or watcher should never have to imagine what's going on. Even a like from Kitana in X saying, "Jade remains in the Netherealm ready to unleash our reserves if needed," would've gone a long way.

No joke, an hour ago I was just saying I hope the jade episode happens soon. Y’all are awesome!!!
  • I'm making my way through all these "The Lost" episode. Really really enjoying this character series
  • The Lost is the best and you guys are amazing. Yes, I wish it came out more, but in the end I understand you guys have lives. Edit: Okay, I'm glad you feel the same, Razor. From a lore perspective I always felt the nitro kick being purple would make so much more sense.
  • I like the backstory about Jade being given to Shao Kahn. In our world history that has commonly happened due to financial hardship and such. In the story Memoirs of a Geisha the main character was sold because her family was poor and the patriarch was dying, or something like that. Very common in Earth's history. America has never had to face choices that come with dictatorship. It would surprise you how people would react in that situation. A lot of people like to think they would be the hero but fear of pain and torture can do a lot to opinions. There's a reason why in the military there is actual training on how to resist torture - and yes it's painful - because people will throw their morals out of the window when enough pressure is applied.

I’ve listened before but I re-listened to all these episodes and I realized I never commented on this one not that Jade is one of my top favorites but she’s a fun character and wishes she had more. You know what would be a cool intro to Jade? What if after Goro flees or whatever Jade comes in and was the one that apprehends(this wouldn’t work in 9’s version I don’t think) Kano and Sonya and her mission throughout 2 was to intercept those who weren’t invited to his tournament primarily Smoke? You guys mentioned the idea of Jade telling on Kitana about her treason and killing of Mileena. With the mechanics of tag team and having konsumables, they could have really done that Jade-Reptile road trip 😆. I can just imagine seeing in cutscene a defiant Kitana trying to tell Jade of what she’s discovered and to join her or step aside and Jade along with Reptile. Or actually Reptile with a saddened Jade as backup beats up Kitana(she’s my favorite character but I wouldn’t mind her losing to ol Syzoth. He needs some Ws lol). Then he goes for the kill and as you suggested Jade says “this not happening” and bonks him. Then Jade and Kitana can go and free Sindel. Maybe set up a 2v2 against Sindel and Sheeva. Just anything to get Jade more involved. Maybe she was thrown in the dungeon by Tanya or Mileena in 4 and was let out after that game’s conclusion. Let her have that battle of ideology with Tanya. Have both of them question one another about their loyalty to the throne and their realm. I don’t like Kotal and Jade but they could have made it better. At least more interesting. Like how Past Sonya isn’t present Johnny’s Sonya, past Jade wouldn’t be present Kotal’s Jade. Or just have Jade work with Kotal and grow fond of him. Personally I always wanted Jade to have been in a relationship with Rain rather than him being with Kitana(tho that could be interesting too lol). I like the idea of Jade being embarrassed for dating such a tool. It’d be like a worse version of Zapp and Leela lol. And it can add to that very small rivalry Rain has with Kotal. He even flirts with Jade a bit in the intros. I like the line he has “better a half god than a false one” 😆 Rain is great. Everyone has their favorite loser and Rain is mine
  • No joke about the Kotal Jade romance Liu kang and Kitana realationship was first established in the 1995 movie
  • Aesthetically the green goes well with the dark skin. That's what made her pop to me when UMK3 first came out. That and the purple along with the green; her color scheme really meshes well.

Yesssss! Something to listen to tonight at work! God bless you Shad & Razor.. God bless you!! 😃👍
  • Isn't necromancy raising the dead? Kotal was just having his spine repaired.

mentions noob-smoke shad: we'll talk about that next time .... :)
