I was born in Paris and lived there in 2008-2009 and I can write a dissertation on how social media has really distorted people's perception of Paris. I love the city like a spouse, I always want to go there, and I will always see the beauty of it. But it's still a city with real people, not a playground for Instagram. And every now & then, usually when protests happen if we're being honest, the world is reminded of that fact.
  • Parisians look just like New Yorkers, anything goes. No one should stress about what to wear in Paris. City people in Western countries are much the same, with the possible exception of Milan. I like to up my game in Milan.

This video appeared on my feed, and I immediately subscribed after watching it. I was only able to spend 2 days in Paris, and I was extremely nervous because of these stereotypes you mentioned. I'm not well-to-do and have a mid-size physique. However, I blended in surprisingly well, and most of the French people I met were unbelievably helpful, sweet, kind, and, well, normal. I remember going into a chocolate shop, and the saleswoman spoke zero English while I speak zero French (besides bonjour and merci🤣). We both played an incredible game of charades in order to communicate, plus I utilized some assistance from Google translate. She was so patient and friendly and threw in some freebies for me to try. It is still the best chocolate I've ever eaten, and I can't remember where it was because it was just a small place on a tiny random street that I happened to wander into😅! Thank you for debunking some of these myths. I hope to return to France some day😊.
  • Foreigners in Paris tend to spend their time in the wealthier parts of the city and seem to block out the reality of the cost of being dressed stylishly in designer outfits. A Chanel suit can cost as much as a car! In Paris, like everywhere else, only few people have the euros to spend that sort of money. Even the less exalted brands are not budget friendly! Thank you for the video!

I wrote before how surprised and relieved I was seeing more "normal" people walking around Paris. I have never been there and all I knew were the cliches. So I felt more relaxed seeing people who dressed more casually and not so perfect in your videos. For the record I was not talking about Theo. I was looking at other females curious about what they wear. Anyhow, I love that you are wanting to give us the truth versus fiction. It is always better to have truth in reality.

I just found your channel. I am an American now living in Paris in the 14th arrondissement. I love seeing a diversity of people. All shapes and sizes. I am 53 years old and one of the youngest people in my building... most of my neighbors are in their 70's and 80's and live on a strict budget. They are also mostly artists that have been living in the building for decades. I like seeing the real Paris.
  • Theo I so much appreciate you describing the real people of Paris! I went to Paris and the people are just like you said. My experience was that they were very friendly and helpful!

I've been to Paris twice. Once with my family and 3 yo granddaughter fifteen years ago. Everyone was so sweet and patient with her. I returned last year, pretty worn out, slow moving and thinking. Everyone was patient and kind with this struggling, tired woman. I love seeing you passionate. I am hoping to return to Paris and other parts of France on all my trips to Europe. One will be with my granddaughter. My biggest regret was not planning better, with your help. PS My stay was after a 1 week camino walk and another two weeks in Spain.

Yes! France and Paris are very diverse and dress normally (albeit I think the French dress smarter overall) and they are people like everyone else

😂😂😂, so true, I live near Paris and I just want to scream when I see this "parisian girl" thing, lol, it's sooooooo not true, honestly, I personally think the average South Korean has better style than the average Parisian, lol

Normalement je ne comprends pas bien les vidéos en anglais, mais grâce à cet accent que nous partageons, ça passe crème. Allez, je m'abonne rien que pour le plaisir de t'entendre

When searching for a home in Europe (all countries in the EU were up for consideration, for me), I avoided France and especially Paris. This is because of the stereotypical cliches I saw all the time in the media, and I wasn't interested in such a highly polished place; I thought it wouldn't suit me. I accidentally learned a lot about France (Paris in particular) in my research without meaning to, and I actually really fell in love with what I saw when I dug deeper. A real place with texture. I have chosen Paris after all in the end :)

When people criticize someone as kind and good as Theo, all it does is say how unhappy they are with their own lives. I agree it's easy to criticize other people and I have done it myself. But I would like to think I had good reason to do it. That the person was not admirable. Theo is very different. He brings such joy, calm and pleasure. I'm a new subscriber and his videos have already become one of my favorites. If people can't watch Theo's videos and be happy then maybe they need to look in the mirror instead of looking at Theo to find fault. Just continue being you, Theo.🙌🏽👍🏽Merci!✨
  • Thanks for sharing this video with us. Those of us who have never been to Paris or France want to know the reality of life there before we visit. Keep posting your honest videos.
  • @annedixon2528
Thank you for your honesty! I love the French, and was fortunate to host several students from your country. We are all people with more similarities than differences ❤!
  • @MassielMancebo
I love Paris and French people, I find them to be very sincere and kind, I think the most annoying part about the cliche is the lack of diversity, Paris is very very diverse, and very culturally mixed and open, and these cliches make it seem like it’s not.
  • All these clichés concern the bourgeoisie... It's like summarizing the USA in Beverly Hills or the beautiful neighborhoods of NY.It's like Paris, the city of love or France the most romantic country in the world... I don't know why because for us French it's Italy with Rome, Florence, Venice.

Hi Theo, I want to say thank you for trying to make real content about the French and your culture. I will start my study in September and watching your videos trully have open my eyes. Honestly with all the cliché sometimes I feel intimidated but with your videos it brings sense of relief. Once again thank you
  • Totally agree. The chic French girl is a myth. Like in any country only 10% of women are stylish !
  • Your video was a breath of fresh air …thank you taking the time to make it
