A Session on Trunk Control

Published 2023-11-25
Hi, I’m Dana and I have been a pediatric physical therapist for 25 years. You can read more about my practice at the top of my channel. I see kids for a lot of different disabilities including developmental delay, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, genetic disorders, dystrophies, and more. I cannot give individualized medical advice on social media and you need your doctors permission to try any exercises with your child. A therapist needs to be trained in order to perform these highly skilled exercises.

I see kids for intensives in Cary, North Carolina for 1,2, or 3 weeks for 2 visits per day. We are able to show a lot of progress with our little patients and I share that to bring hope to other parents around the world. You can find booking information at the link at the top of my channel.

The exercises I use are based on Cueves Medek Exercises. We give novel experiences to kids to work on neuroplasticity of the brain which allows us to improve gross motor skills.

These exercises are based on CME therapeutic interventions. You can find more exercises at my instagram page highlights section. Instagram is @all_kids_are_perfect. Only do these exercises under the permission of your doctor. I am not a doctor and do not prescribe medications. I know this mom well and suggested motrin for sore muscles. These exercises are done at your own risk. This child was on seizure medication and was very sleepy. Do not do exercises when your child is asleep. Always. have a spotter.

I’m cheering this wonderful little girl on with every exercise, bless you all for your work. I wonder if you or any of the parents have read the marvellous book by William Horewood called ‘The Skallagrig’ I think it would inspire many parents with children who may appear to not communicate in the same way as most. I believe just as you are challenging their physical limitations their intellectual abilities can be stretched also. The worst thing we can do is give up on them by not seeing their innate strength.
