The animation wizards behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep are back with a sequel to their 2000 hit feature, "Chicken Run." Correspondent Seth Doane visits the Bristol, England studios of Aardman Animations, where artists have painstakingly filmed "Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget," a comic adventure in which daredevil chickens seek to rescue their precious hen from a dastardly factory farm. (Think "Chicken: Impossible.")

Stop-motion animation requires some serious dedication! You'd have to have a giant load of patience to make these movies work. My respect for the animators is infinite.

Stop motion has a ‘warm’ feeling to it; even with special effects, digital or AI tends to be flat and cold.

As a kid, I was mesmerized by the 1963 film "Jason & The Argonauts" showcasing the brilliant work of stop-motion animation legend Ray Harryhausen. That sword fight with the skeleton warriors is epic! He also worked on Mighty Joe Young (1949) & Clash of the Titans (1981) - magical stuff! 👏

I've been a huge Wallace and Grommit fan since I was a little kid, and those shorts (plus the movie) always holds a special place in my heart. 😊

I loved chicken run in early 2000s…I wish the new one was in theater, not just on netflix.

Wallace & Grommit - wow. I used to show those films to my 7-12th graders photography classes.

I’m so amazed by this. Just changing the mouth for every syllable said is mind blowing.

  • Stop motion is amazing! Although it takes a long time to get it fully ready to be released in theaters or on any streaming services.

I enjoyed Gumby animation as a kid. I also love the movie Coraline. Dawn Of The Nugget looks great too.

The rawness of stop motion is unparalleled compared to cgi. You can see the love and detail in every frame. Even if its a single fingerprint left in the clay.

I love stop-motion there's a magic to it that CGI can't quite replicate

I remember seeing a piece on Wallace and Gromit in 1997, and immediately knew I would name my first dog after that dog. And I did and he happened to share a birthday with the fictitious Gromit (My Gromit coincidentally was born on Feb 12, so it was meant to be). Had that same perturbed personality to boot. I was annoying to him. 😂😂😂

"Gumby" was our stop-motion experience. Back before Prop 13 destroyed after school programming from 1978 forward in California, we had all matter of extra curricular classes, including stop-motion animation. We made a short stop-animation feature film in elementary school. Wow!
