What to expect with an upper endoscopy

Published 2015-09-16
Upper endoscopy is a quick and painless procedure. As Sheryl Pfeil, MD, a gastroenterologist at Ohio State explains, during an endoscopy, the physician places a lighted tube into a patient’s mouth and guides it down the esophagus and into the stomach to look for issues such as ulcer disease or narrowing and irritation of the esophagus. If required, pain free biopsies can also be performed. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, visit internalmedicine.osu.edu/digestivediseases/ or call (614) 293-6255.
