My husband is so proud of his time in USCG he misses it
  • the US Coast Guard is a mix of angels and hero's and doesn't get enough recognition
  • Love how they are teaching the next generation how to survive in the water and react to a rescue situation. That makes them that much calmer and easier to deal with come a real rescue situation.

13 years old, no survival skills and not familiar to the area and she decided to take a hike by herself. She's lucky she was found within a couple days because that would have been a far worse story if she'd been out there for much longer

Can you imagine how great this girl felt when she realized how much personnel and resources just for her, along with her family and community! I don't see her leaving Alska anytime soon! I am a former Fire Chief and Paramedic and have worked along side USCG, SAR, US and Alska wildlife officials teams and the National Park Service! Sadly 2 of the searches did not end well like a small plane crash and someone who fell into a rapid waterfalls in the middle of the park. The plane crash incident had resources cost between all agencies was around 2 Million before we found the deceased and the crashedvaircraftit and with over 300 personnel over the time once notified and 5.4 Million with over 500 personnel to search for the foreign citizen visiting the Alska wilderness! It was so very sad to tell the family we couldn't find the individual alive and well with all victims! When we did have a good rescue it was most rewarding feeling! Even just one life is priceless!

I feel like when the AST saw the dog he was like "best case, this has just became the best case".

Please at least give your kid a whistle and tell them to keep buildings in sight. If their like my oldest they might not listen to the second part but the whistle can really help.
  • Great job to search and rescue. They found her, warmed her and fed her. That young lady is a smart and strong.😊💕 Big thank you to the USCG, well done👍🏻
  • Is it just me, or is Alaskan community what America is meant to be? It seems like the purest form of what I also imagined America to be.
  • In New London, CT. The Whaling City and home of the Coast Guard Academy we say God bless the Coast Guard

Ha!!! Oh my gosh!! I could not help but laugh out loud when Michaela said “this is the one day I’m gonna be hugging people” because I have a 13-year-old daughter and that would literally be the exact thing she would say. So funny. I’m so glad she’s OK.
