Published 2023-01-30
How do MS medications work? In this video I decode the Mechanism of Action of Multiple Sclerosis Medications of immunomodulatory drugs.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. There are several medications available to treat MS, and they work by targeting the underlying mechanisms of the disease. In this video, I will decode the mechanism of action of multiple sclerosis medications. I will explore how these medications work to reduce inflammation, protect nerve cells, and modulate the immune system. We will also discuss the different types of MS medications and their specific mechanisms of action. My goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the science behind multiple sclerosis treatment options and help you better understand how these medications work.

This part 1 video focuses on how immuno-modulatory MS medications. Watch part 2 which reviewed how the immunosuppressive MS medications work!

  • Good morning Dr. Boster. Another great video! I always learn something new from you.
  • Hi Dr Boster, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been watching your videos for the last 6 months, or so, and I can’t thank you enough for what you are doing! First of, I would like to thank you for taking people for intelligent human beings. Explaining everything in details, with images and stories which makes me, for the least, want to go further with my questioning/understanding. It makes me want to go back to school and become doctor, so I can make a difference in this world! The information you give targets every question I ask myself. Thanks for being on the target all the time. I love your sense of humour and energy. Really, thank you! I’m from Montreal, Qc-Canada! I have a great doctor, I’m really lucky, but if I could have you as a doctor, I think I would feel really safe. I think you would really take the time to listen to me, to how I really feel and that you would not let anything slip, and I would be grateful of what you recommend. I think, this world needs more people like you, who really enjoy what they do, and actually give a #% about what is going on. Anyway, a big thank you for supporting people like me, Janouk❤!😉
  • I love how easy you make it to understand things like this! Understanding the purpose & function of things can really make a positive difference!
  • GREAT video! I've been diagnosed & taking DMD's for 13yrs. I started on Betaseron and am now on my 7th DMD. I didn't know how Betaseron worked til watching this. I've taken Aubagio too--same thing..didn't know! I'm looking forward to you explaining the others! Tysabri was my favorite but my titre levels got too high after almost 4yrs on it. I'm currently on Mavenclad & start my 2nd year dosing in May. It & Tysabri are the only ones that I know and understand how they work. THANK YOU so much for taking your personal time to make these videos & for using "regular" language so I & everyone else who's not in the medical field can understand!

Hello, Dr. Boster. Thank you so much for these videos. I just got diagnosed and I am meeting with my neurologist this week to discuss my options as far as meds go and your videos have really helped me in my journey.
  • Being diagnosed at 37 was one of the scariest bits of news I have ever heard. Considering, I had completed 10 years of service in the Army, I've been scared plenty of times, but I only knew of 2 people my entire life that had MS, and I was TERRIFIED by the news. I found your videos within 2 days, and have followed along since. THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this so much easier to understand for a simple minded kinda guy. I've learned SO MUCH from your videos, and I've come a LONG WAY in trying to combat this wild diagnosis, so again, THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for another great video this morning, your understanding of MS is demonstrated by your ability to explain a very complex disease in a methodical manner, please keep making your videos as I look forward to watching them every week.
  • Ty Dr.B for teaching and sharing with me something once again! Love your videos, excitement to teach others and your energy. One of the best MS Neurologists! Ty 🧡🦋
  • @roberture5903
Good morning Dr Aaron, thank you for keeping us in the loop on how these disease modifying therapies work. The way you explained copaxone was spot on so I'm really looking forward to your videos to come. Thanks again for all that you do and have a great day.
  • 👏 this is a great easy to understand video- these are SO helpful in understanding what the DMD’s do and especially for a newbie getting on one or a old hat changing meds. Heck this is a great “ reeducation” for me and others in the field. Great video in the series Doc. ❤ #Sharingiscaring #Strongertogether
  • Thank you for this great video. As a medical doctor ( not neurologist ) and a patient I’m learning a lot from your channel. Being diagnosed at age 24 now 49 you change my perspective about MS and the drugs. I finally convinced to use DMT after 22 years. Thanks a lot
  • I went to a new neurologist yesterday. It was a horrible day seeing this new Doctor. She was down right mean. She just wanted to do a test where they put needles in my nerves. I don't want to do that test. I just wanted pain maintained. Anyhow so here I am getting worse, and suffering. Thank you for your post.
  • My Monday morning s with Dr. B - hoody hoo 🧡 - love always- Nancy 🇨🇦
  • @SaeedJubran
Thank you for explaining how drugs work after entering the body
  • Thank you Dr. Boster I have taken glatamer acitate for 13 years. I responded well to it. I was told once it is derived from bee venom. I am allergic to bees so I thought that made sense. Novartis has stopped all assistance for that treatment. I am currently trying to get on a program for vumerity. Thank you for all the illuminating information. Bless you sir. Love and respect from Texas.
  • @julie9155
Trying Zeposia this week. Blood pressure stayed up all day 🙄 Didn't have this problem with Gilenya, insurance forced change
  • @angiebear8727
Ty for the explanation. I was diagnosed at 28 and am now 44. Have been on many of these meds and the side effects are worse than the symptoms I’ve had so far. Should I keep trying new things or just give up. It’s frustrating because I want to fight but I don’t want my quality of life to suffer the entire time. Currently I’m on Vumerity. Seemed ok for a while but all of a sudden I developed an allergic reaction (hives, tight throat kinda thing)
