July 22, 2010 - I edited this video of a few crazy guys walking down Oakland Ave in Shorewood, WI, during the flood on July 22, 2010, together with Google Maps & images from Google Street View, to give a perspective of where they were, and what it usually looks like.

I hope none of them got sick after this - at least they actually saw some crap floating in the water at the end, so they realized that that was what they were wading through. Well, that, and worse. Not to mention they could have been swept away by that river barreling down Edgewood Ave. I assume they all got out ok though.

Thanks for posting this, guys. I live in Wauwatosa, but I was in NYC from 7/22-7/25. Awesome video! I'm glad you didn't get hurt, sick, or electrocuted..

I drive down there today - the curbs are piled full of sofas, dressers, etc.. I can't imagine any of the businesses or apartments/homes had flooding insurance; you'd never expect to have much more than a little water in your basement around there - much less a 6' river flowing down your street. Local reports said there were over 5 1/2 inches of rain in under 2 hours. It's nuts!
  • I almost got stuck in that storm! I was driving home from work in it!!

Ten years ago. Buncha my friends are talking about this on FB. Shit was nuts
  • I was stranded in Menomonee Falls for 4 hours during this. I was picking up my computer at Milwaukee PC. I wish I had known what I was in for. I kept having to find higher and higher ground when it became obvious I would not be able to make it back home to the Tosa area. At one point, I had to drive across a flooded road and actually was swept downstream for a second. I finally found high ground at an abandoned car dealership with roaring rivers on either side of me. Scary $hit.

Wow, I live a block north of there. Knocked out the elevator. But I've never seen the streets as clean as today...

Dang! I guess I won't go to Otto's for the half barrel
  • This was one of the most traumatic experiences I've ever been through. I was driving home from tosa where i worked to the east side where i lived. Every route I tried taking to get home was completed flooded out. I honestly thought I was gonna lose my car with the amount of times I almost got stuck. It took me probably close to 2 hours to get home. It was a nightmare come to life.

@shaneslifestory Don't let this video scare you away from Milwaukee - it was a VERY unusual flood - one that will probably never happen again. The closest we usually get to a natural disaster here is just a couple feet of snow; but as we've seen in the past month, that can happen just about everywhere.

Wow, and to think I was in Milwaukee just a week ago! I took the 15 bus down Oakland. Man...I'm glad I moved out of Shorewood last year. This is freaky ass shit!

That's great but do you know how to shoot a video without jumping around?
