"Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10"

Marcus and Glenn Beck have been come very close friends over the years and they sit down and talk (along with Luttrell's wife) about his ordeal and the movie.

Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and survival, LONE SURVIVOR tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan. Faced with an impossible moral decision, the small band is isolated from help and surrounded by a much larger force of Taliban ready for war. As they confront unthinkable odds together, the four men find reserves of strength and resilience as they stay in the fight to the finish.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Marcus Luttrell, the author of the first-person memoir Lone Survivor, whose book has become a motivational resource for its lessons on how the power of the human spirit is tested when we are pushed beyond our mental and physical limits. Starring alongside Wahlberg as the other members of the SEAL team are Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.

LONE SURVIVOR is written and directed by Peter Berg, who again crafts a striking portrait of the unbreakable bonds between men that he first explored in Friday Night Lights.

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to be very close to Bin Laden with a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive.

This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL fire team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history. His squadmates fought valiantly beside him until he was the only one left alive, blasted by an RPG into a place where his pursuers could not find him. Over the next four days, terribly injured and presumed dead, Luttrell crawled for miles through the mountains and was taken in by sympathetic villagers who risked their lives to keep him safe from surrounding Taliban warriors.

A born and raised Texan, Marcus Luttrell takes us from the rigors of SEAL training, where he and his fellow SEALs discovered what it took to join the most elite of the American special forces, to a fight in the desolate hills of Afghanistan for which they never could have been prepared. His account of his squadmates' heroism and mutual support renders an experience that is both heartrending and life-affirming. In this rich chronicle of courage and sacrifice, honor and patriotism, Marcus Luttrell delivers a powerful narrative of modern war.

I've never cried in a movie before. not because I think I'm too tough but because I've never come to a point where I've just lost my emotions. I cried tonight as I watched the end slides how of the lost soldiers and their families, and I know that my words mean nothing compared to anyone involved in this movie, but from myself and everyone else in the theatre tonight, thank you for slightly opening our eyes to what you go through everyday. I'm praying for you, Marcus. I'm praying for your family/ marriage, and I'm praying for the loved ones of the ones you loved and lost. You're humbleness will always blind you from the acknowledgment of your HEROIC actions.

I just watched this film with my girlfriend and my 13 year old son. I have to tell you, it is the best movie I have ever seen in my 49 years of life. This movie has to be an Oscar winner next year for Best Movie, Best everything!. Marcus Luttrell is America's hero. I have been watching many interviews with him and is painful to see the pain in his words, his eyes, his memory. But at the same time, I am glad he's alive, that he survived to be able to tell the story of his men that perished that day in Afghanistan. God bless his wife, his family, his men and their family.

I hope you know that this movie doesn't only honor vets and our military. I've seen twice so far and have taken different people. I see people who have experienced this story really starting to reevaluate their lives. 8 hours at your miserable job doesn't seem so bad anymore, or whatever.      I wish I had a time machine so I could go backto 2005 and say don't go this time. I doubt it would have stopped you though. Thank you for sharing this story Marcus.

I Loved the book. I own the hardcover and the audible version. The movie is very loosely based on the book in my opinion. Much respect to Marcus and all the great men who take it to the limits everyday.
