The REAL SILVER BULLET! Legendary street racing legend! 1967 Plymouth GTX

Published 2022-11-23
The Silver Bullet is one of of those cars that is very well known throughout the car community as a legendary street racing car back in the day out on Woodward Avenue. The story goes, that this car was never beaten on the street. Chrysler was doing a lot of performance testing and this was a test mule. There was a lot of cruising and street racing happening in metro Detroit. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! The car now belongs to Harold Sullivan, who is a great car guy and car enthusiast.

60s PLYMOUTH AND DODGE MODELS 440d and HEMIs. ARE STILL THE ONES THAT OLDER GUYS WANT TO RUN AROUND IN NOW. I ALWAYS LOVE THEM MORE THAN THE NEW STUFF TODAY. ❤❤
  • Not only did the car have 4 Cadillac mufflers on it (which didn't really quiet it down but I also heard that he had pulled the body panels out at the rear wheel wells so he could run bigger tires. That car is a LEGEND. Not just a story....... But a true LEGEND backed up with evidence.

About 25 years ago I tried to by a 67 GTX that i passed every day on an Indian reservation. The 440 was hanging on an A Frame cherry picker. Talked to the owner numerous times as the car sat in the yard for at least 30 years. One day I drove by, and the car was gone. Stopped by a few days later to ask about it. Turns out the old man had passed away, and they scrapped the GTX for $250! I asked which scrap yard took it. And tracked it down through a phone call. Not For Sale! I asked if could buy parts off it. NO! We’re not parting it out. The tow driver made some sort of deal. I don’t blame him. The One That Got Away!

No car is unbeatable no car always wins the race if someone says that they have never lost than they have never raced

I remember the car from the 60’s and ‘70’s. I also saw it at the Autoramma years ago. Too bad it is over restored now. The Corvair turbo mufflers were 2 1/2 in and out also. The car is still an icon, take care of it.

Im pretty sure i use to see this car at the United Street Machine Association car shows at the fairgrounds at 8 Mile and Woodward. The older generation will remember those were one of the best car show settings around town, couldn't ask for a better place.
  • Reminds me of the '68,' Sport Fury I used to have... A 440ci under the hood, 4 speed, trans and posi track rear end. I added a push button start to the starter and twin 'Cherry Bomb,' glasspack mufflers underneath. I got this beast from out of a junkyard, for $300! It had resided there probably for 10 years or more. The sound of that 440, when it first started shook the ground! It split rocks and knocked the limbs off of trees!! LOL It had a Quadrajet 4 barrel carb, that looked as big as a toilet bowl! Them was the days!

So when was this car owned by Legendary Motor Cars? They have a recenr video of it being test driven by Peter Klute (owner of L.M.C.) on the street.

Mr. Sullivan should know Blackbird got the best of it one night on Telegraph Road. Stunning car.

can you please filter the background noise its louder that the focus of the video.....
  • I have to say thanks for putting the car in pristine condition. I do think the original driver, Jimmy, did admit to losing to a Chevy "A few times". Anyone know about that?
