Firstly, thank you all. You're an amazing community. You came together to help save the Ruston 165 from being sent to scrap.
The big question is that, being sold with a gearbox fault, will it actually move, or is it just a paperweight?
If you want to support the Locomotives please have a look at the fundraiser. Every penny will be used to get them back into operational condition.

Bloody fantastic. Congratulations mate. That must've been an incredible feeling. :)

This man will own all the rustuns in the Uk 😂
-
I swear. Once (or If) all three Ruston's are in service, there HAS TO BE a Lawrie's Goes Loco...Loco Gala. We'll call it the LGLG, Lawrie Goes Loco Gala. Starring all three Rustons in service. Have 303 Shunting in the yard and as a station pilot. McAlpine on small trains. And 165 on bigger trains.

Every time I see this thing, my eyes go to that VERY familiar shade of tank engine blue on those wheels....
-
I had to cheer when it went into gear and started moving. And of course, the excitement when you went through the gears was definitely contagious. Great job, Lawrie!
-
fun that over 200% was raised
-
Absolutely superb to hear that this Ruston's been saved! Scrapping it in today's era of heritage railways would've been absolutely tragic, especially with how it works.
-
Lawrie is a legend! I look forward to seeing your locomotive fleet growing!
-
Your joy was infectious, the pure excitment at seeing and hearing the engine grumble to life before taking off put a smile on my face. Can't wait to see where things go from here, a lot of TLC is clearly required but I think given how many people donated to the cause it's safe to say we all agree it's in the right hands with you Lawrie.

It starts! It runs! All it needs now is a lick of paint.
-
I can't believe this fully functional loco was almost scrapped. It needs a tune up, but it's extremely far from hopeless.
-
Two of the wheeled conveyances procured by Lawrie in un-broken condition have been Rustons. There’s an indication of how hard they are to break in there somewhere.
-
mans is out here, not just documenting history, but actively saving it. Lawrie, you and your community are absolute madlads. keep up the amazing work.
-
the fact the engine was saved in a day is nothing short of a miracle so happy to see this old diesel get preserved
-
Your laugh at 5:19 is so contagious!! I'm glad it works :)
-
This loco is going to look fantastic painted up and serviced. Well done.
-
Lawrie’s next big challenge: Buy one of the Barclays from Thomas Muir in Scotland and get it restored. (Joking of course… though it would be neat.)
-
the happy shouts as she moved was all i needed to be given a smile
-
actually i cant believe it was going for scrap

As an American I really enjoy seeing these little direct-drive locomotives. Here in the USA, once steam and the narrow-gauges lost favor, pretty much all of the locomotives were the GIANT diesel-electrics. Even the "little" yard-engines are massive compared to these cool little guys.❤
