What is the clicking/ popping noise coming from the dash of my truck? Show& Tell only, Not a how to.

If you ever heard a clicking sound for several seconds when you start you car it may be from a little motor that is located in the dashboard of your car or truck. This is just one of several motors "actuator" that control or adjust the hot and cold air, The places the air comes out such as vents, defrosters, floor air sometimes called the floor heat or the recirculation air that is also for the heat and AC (air-conditioning). This one is from a Ford Truck but most import, domestic and European vehicles of the past 20 years use these now in one form or another. Some are very high tech and others are just basic on off or potentiometers type of use.

Wow, great explanation. I just ordered the mix modulator that goes behind the radio. before I install it, would you recommend shooting some WD-40 or any other lubricant down onto the actual door itself before installing this? Like you mentioned in the video, foreign objects that have fallen through can block the door and break the big sprocket. Taking it a step further, would you recommend spraying some WD-40 or something down onto the door itself to make sure it continues to open smoothly with the least resistance? Thank you!
  • Yep, this happened to my ford taurus years ago. Replaced the part. Haven't had any trouble since. Is this part of the instrument cluster??

Would be nice to know what make and model vehicle this actuator came out of. I doubt it is out of the Chevrolet that I searched for.
  • Good video but this isn't what is making the electrical noise in the dash in a 2012 Ford Focus when the passenger door is opened. It looks like this dash was out prior along with the headliner and "A" and "B" trims on this car. If one is sitting in the seat when the door is opened from inside or outside it doesn't make the noise. It almost sounds like a relay fuse whirring. There's no issue with the a/c system. I'll check the fuses. The horn on this car doesn't work either.
  • I have a 04 trailblazer ls that only blows cold air on the right side but hot on left when my heats on. Today I hear clicking in my dash after I start the car. Could that be this part issue?
