Here's a video about culture shocks that I was not expecting in South Africa as a half Japanese, half American girl from Tokyo!
I've been living in Port Elizabeth, South Africa since the end of January, and I thought it would be fun to share some of the funny/interesting/different things I've noticed about SA so far. Really hope you enjoy! 🤍

  • You have been here for too long if you know the "mugger's walk." Still the funniest thing to us locals too. It still baffles us why they are all addicted to that walk🤣🤣🤣🤣
  • @kristen9367
One thing I’m surprised she didn’t mention is the way our taxis drive like they own the roads 😂
  • @Spydermnky_89
90% of car guards don’t even guard your car ,they just spawn when you’re leaving
  • Just stumbled across this video. As a South African it's so refreshing to hear someone talk about the positives instead of all the bad things we hear on the news. Really made my day 🇿🇦
  • @melissasmith5059
🤣😂this was fun to watch. As a South African I can talk that you’re enjoying the country by the amount of times you’ve said “Yoh” in this video.❤️
  • @user-zb2oj6kr6c
"Yoh guys" 😂 You are turning South African so quickly. I love your positive vibe and as a South African, your video is so accurate, I laughed so much.
  • @Thahasoley
Honestly I don't know what we would be without our humor🤣🤣🤣🤣
  • @invaliduser6961
As someone who really frowns upon the fake "reviews" of SA, I am very happy that you chose to speak about the danger, loadshedding and yes the muggers walk 😅. Other people only ever speak about the beauty of our nation but never about what goes on behind the curtains. Thank you for such a great video 👍
  • @StAlfonzo87
    I caught like 3 or 4 "yoh"s. That's all you need. You're a citizen.
  • @bulelanibotman
😭😭😭, the stereotypical mugger walk, the accent when you said 'iyho', 'haibo' & 'loadshedding', you're truly integrated no lies!
  • @fiqhonomics
"The ability of these people to joke about their problems is inspirational" ❤
  • @thehan.mitchell
as a South African, growing up at my school we had a peacock called Kevin that showed up one day and never left 😂
  • @avalonmars2598
If your involuntarily saying things like "yoh!" at the end of your sentences😂 you've earned your South Africanness my sister🇯🇵🇿🇦 we love and salute you. We dub you your official SA name... "enhle" pronounced en-tle which means beautiful because ur such a beautiful person.
  • @ktzalpha
As a South African living abroad, you made me chuckle so much. Thank you for reminding me of home. At 10:14 you said "Yoh guys" in the perfect South African accent and I think it was completely natural.
  • @disking10ZA
Damn girl😂😂😂 The mugger's walk killed TF out of me yo.😂😂😂
  • @michellemare9337
As a South African, I can verify that your video is 100% accurate... And even though I grew up here, I'm a bit of a hermit in a rural area so don't get out much due to mobility issues, so the muggers walk was an eye opener for me, I have noticed the walk, but never made the association.. thanks for educating me
  • @JozieIsMe
As a South African I was both laughing and crying during this video... Thanks for being so observant and tuned in to our culture!
  • @Swali_B
Your pronunciation of the 'X' in "Xhosa" is hella impressive. A lot of South Africans can't pull it off that well, to be honest😅 Your effort to learn the culture and language is really admirable
  • As a proud South African, I am so happy that you mentioned 'loadshedding'! Welcome to our society! Busy microwaving your braai from yesterday? All of a sudden, you are sitting in darkness!
