It can be hard to accept your unhappiness (or, as the Buddha calls it, suffering) and not resist the present moment. Fortunately, when you accept this moment as it is, unhappiness does not last long in you.

Everyone has a pain-body, but some versions of it can be more difficult to investigate than others. Do you recognize the experiential qualities that trigger your particular pain-body? When it asserts itself, have you been able to observe the pain-body even as it takes hold of your thoughts? Have you ever been able to interrupt and dissolve the pain-body before it grips you? What techniques did you use to do so?
  • Having listened to your wisdom I am no longer suicidal. So thankyou xx

    - I just want to let anyone who’s reading this comment to know; Awakening is not changing who you are, but discarding who you are not ✨
  • As I listened I remembered a Bible verse from my youth: "I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."
  • I remember many times telling friends and family that I like being sad as it's OK to be sad. I found beauty and healing in it. I used to say this as a child and people would call me crazy. Well, fast forward thirty plus years, these same people are wondering why am I so happy now. I say well because I'm OK with emotions of any kind. Acceptance is key to true happiness. Namaste <3
  • Mr. Tolle's voice alone is it's own meditation. Sometimes I'm not even aware of what he is saying but my mind becomes completely relaxed just hearing his voice.

My dear Dad no longer with us used to always tell me to stop worrying..... because 99per cent of things we worry about never happen... '' 'So don't worry be happy' ''I loved the idea that unhappiness cannot exist if you accept the unhappiness... it feels uncomfortable and fades away. 🤔😉👌

“Unhappiness cannot coexist with acceptance “ Wow! Am so grateful Eckhart. Namaste 🙏🏻
  • I am a widow of a year and a half. I'm going through a hellish rollercoaster of emotions.

Thank you I am willing to try everything now after a few years of depression
  • Life has gotten slightly less despairing when I try to remind myself I’ll always be sad since my mother passed away, I don’t need to beat myself up for not feeling happy or like myself. She was my only support so I will be sad with periods of happiness

The medicalised dichotomy on "Depression" means we are all fearful of any tiny smidgeon of unhappy feelings. With overwhelming feelings of unhappiness, we get called "Mentally Ill". If we accept unhappiness and sit with it, it does tend to fade away by itself. Nowhere in our rushed, busy, fast-paced, modern lives are we taught this. That actually astounds me now! Thankyou, just thankyou 🙏
  • I have been emotionally well for years after finding Eckhart.... I recently lost my dad and have been very hurt by my stepmom.... I have been eaten alive inside and have not had these feelings for years..... I needed to hear this today.... Thanks

Eckhart Thankyou so much. I am a comedian writer and actor who only a year ago was diagnosed with C-PTSD from an abusive childhood, which I have probably had since I was about 9..I am now 59 .I have read A New Earth and am now reading it again. I love this and it is very helpful.
  • I enjoy reading the comments as much as listening to the talk. So many wise words everywhere. Thank you. 🙏
  • When unhappiness arises in you, "Be grateful for whatever your experience of this moment is." "Accept your experience of this moment." Thank you.
