The political context of Israel may be set to change forever. Yet as a growing number of Jewish women reject the age-old tradition of the headscarf, a local battle tests Israel s capacity to change.

The headscarf is a defining Jewish tradition, symbolising a woman's marital status. As times move forward, more women are turning to an alternate way of covering their hair without covering themselves - the wig. The controversial issue, "This is a very divisive issue, because women want to be beautiful and look good", has been challenged by Orthodox Jews. The wig in itself has also caused more conflict, "The wig shows quite clearly who you are and what social class you belong to". This argument goes deeper than just a hairstyle - as the women of Israel stand up against tradition and social expectations.

If the wig is prettier and more attractive than your real hair, HOW IS THAT MODESTY
  • @LaNa-lx5wi
This is so illogical ! Hair is hair ! Why cover your hair with more hair???
  • @CathyKitson
If a scarf is to tell men they're married and unavailable, there's not much point in wearing a wig if nobody can tell you're wearing a wig.
  • @GREENLALI
My husband would go broke with all the wigs I would buy.
  • @chabeyline
That's so ironic, Jewish women covered her real hair with a wig.
  • @isak6782
What an uninformed video. Orthodox women wearing wigs instead of headscarves is not "a new way" or "a controversial move away from Orthodox Jewish tradition". In fact, it has been done since the 16th Century!

Cover hair with hair. This is a joke the problem is that the wig is more beautiful than the hair itself 😂😂

I don't understand the obsession religion has with women's hair! A woman 's face is much more of attraction so why not cover that first?
  • @kathrynt5899
Why can't they just wear a wedding ring like everyone else?
  • @katew9927
Why not just wear a wedding ring to signify that you are married? Wouldn't that serve the same purpose?

This is something a lawyer would come up with! The law says cover your hair? Ok use a wig so that “technically” you’re obeying the law but it sure doesn’t look like it from the outside which is what you want to convey ... the equivalent of “having your cake and eating it too!”

It is more important if the woman got good morals then actually wearing the wig because the wig doesn't mean anything like she got good morals and values. The wig just shows if she married to someone wealthy if it is expensive one or someone poor if it is cheap one
  • The concept of modesty masks the true power grabbing reason for women covering their hair, maybe even shaving it off). I feel sad for my female ancestors. Modesty means dimming your self expression and creativity. It's all about male dominated control.
  • So expensive! Please forgive me if I am wrong but does wearing a beautiful high-end wig insinuate that you are 'high class/wealthy' while those who wear scarves are 'lower class'? Does it cause a division among sisters of the same faith?

Starts with...”you donot show your hair because you shouldnot “attract” men if you are married” Very twisted argument but let’s say it’s true: Then wouldn’t wig (if so natural looking, in all colors etc) “attract” men to women? Are men experts now in differentiating wig from real hair? And what if woman’s real hair is worse than the wig, that wig is more attractive???? This is absolutely ridiculous and a proof how minds are twisted around this - what does any of this have to do with worshipping a creator?
