Ah man, my high school English teach from Brooklyn showed us this in class. Never cared particularly much for baseball, but the passion he had for it made watching this special.

Great documentary. My Dad was born in '39 and grew up in Brooklyn. What everyone said in the film representative of what my Dad said. Like everyone else, he hated O'Malley. I never realized that he actually tried to keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn and Robert Moses was the real villain. I always felt nostalgia towards the Dodgers as it was a period that I never got to experience. While it was fun to root for the Mets as a kid in the 80s, it was different. Players stayed with a team, the players lived in the neighborhood, and it was easy to go to a game for cheap.

1:01 A little history. The Dodgers hadn't won any World Championships since 1903 when the modern World Series started. However, if you include the earlier history of the team, they won league pennants in 1889, 1890, 1899, and 1900. They played what could be considered a World Series in 1889 and 1890 when they were known as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. 1889 was their last year in the American Association. They played a post season series against the National League champion New Giants, losing with 3 wins, 6 loses, and 1 tie. In 1890, they had jumped to the National League and finished first. They played a post season series against the American Association champion Louisville Colonels. This was tied with 3 wins apiece and 1 tie. In 1899 they changed their name to the Brooklyn Superbas and won the National League pennant in 1899 and 1900. There was no post season series these years. They could be considered the champions of all baseball in 1899 and 1900 as there weren't any other major leagues at the time.
  • This was an amazing Doc, i loved this and learned a lot i didn't know about the Dodgers past
  • funny no mention of the Dodgers having Clemente in there system and they basically wouldn't play Roberto in the minors unless he was facing elite pitching so he wouldn't get drafted by another team. Clemente was once benched after hitting 3 triples in a game in a Dodger minor league game... once Rickey left 1st player he drafted was Clemente

As a Dodger fan living in Los Angeles and as someone who also is a fan of Disney, I have to say that Robert Moses is one of the single most influential people of my life. Without him, the Dodgers don't move to L.A. and I don't grow up going to their games. Also without him, The 1964 World's Fair doesn't happen and we don't get classic Disneyland attractions such as It's a Small World, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, or the Peoplemover. Thank you, Robert Moses. You are my hero.

I'm not from Brooklyn but seeing that last part got me emotional, because as a team fan you don't want your team to go away...

Brooklyn did NOT vote to incorporate into New York City in 1898; otherwise this is a flawless and most enjoyable documentary

Thank you for posting this :*) Who's cuttin' onions? - Brooklyn born and raised, so this kinda hits hard and tugs at the heart strings <3

The Brooklyn Dodgers didn’t fade away because of the creation of the Mets. National League baseball returned to New York and they were so bad that the fans longed for the departed dodgers and giants. The miracle Mets further cemented their predecessors in New York national league baseball.
  • Still the same ol Dodgers! Can’t win a damn WS again! Haha. Go blue! Or go bums as they used to say! Love Dodger history
  • Not Shocked that Philly was the worse, not at all. Typical of the fanbase even today
