Am I Bagged Out??? When Is Enough, Enough?

Published 2024-02-17
Let's reflect and see if I am indeed "bagged out". Does this buying of luxury and contemporary handbags need to stop? Is all of this Youtube's fault??? When is enough, enough? I need your help!

Bag fatigue is real. Most of us who are bag lovers are actually bag addicts. 😂 And like with any addiction, there are adrenaline-filled moments of excitement and then comes regret, selling, then withdrawal and the cycle starts all over again. I have gone through the “sell and repurchase” sequence so many times, it makes me wonder if I’ll ever find purse peace. I now have a rule that in order to add one more bag to my collection, I first must choose one to let go. This rule is currently helping to curb the impact of my impulsivity, both emotionally and financially. Thank you for this video. I am right there with you.

When I made that video it was the lowest point in my life, my mom was losing her battle with cancer and passed less than a week after that. I had no interest in anything especially bags. I do think it is very normal to go through phases of wanting more and wanting to stop. I personally have been having fun shopping my own closet this year and using the least used. It sounds like you are happy with your collection and that is a good thing!

I can’t even TELL YOU how much I relate to what all you said! I’m 47 and I have been obsessed with purses since I was just a little girl. I have an immense collection and yet I still seem to want more. It’s like it’s never enough, even though there’s absolutely no way I can ever even carry all the bags I currently have! I don’t really want to let any of them go, either. I have days where I start feeling so overwhelmed simply because I have so many amazing bags that don’t even get carried. I find myself feeling stressed over NOT using them, all the while searching online for my next “fix”! It’s exhausting and honestly, sometimes I feel it’s a real (dare I say) sickness! I don’t know if it’s the thrill of the chase, or the excitement of the anticipation of a mail delivery, or WHAT exactly, but I, too, really need to slow down on my purchases and simply just use and enjoy the beautiful collection I already have. As far as future video content ideas, I think just showcasing one of your existing bags in each video would be great. Make it a feature where you show it with outfits, out and about, and the different accessories you use with the bag of the day. In doing so, it might rekindle your love for what you have, and get some of your forgotten bags back into a regular rotation! -Emily

Hi Aaryn, you are always so honest and upfront about your thoughts about your handbag collection, which I really appreciate. I will be brainstorming as to future video ideas, as you asked!! Great collection is RIGHT!
  • @agentbagreviews
I applaud you for your vulnerability and transparency dear friend. You have a STELLAR bag collection that's the best I've ever seen before. I think life is a journey and if you feel content in your bag space, it's time to move on to healthy hobbies to keep your mind busy. I work out daily, work a full time job, hike, bike and want to enjoy traveling now. I'll always like bags, but I'm ready to not LOVE them anymore. There's a difference. ❤
  • @gc7031
❤this video Aaryn! Appreciate your honesty. Went through the same feeling last year after chasing the next IT bags. Which actually was a good thing. Made me more selective with my purchases and buy bags that works for my liking and my lifestyle. I watched your bag collection tour and you own such beautiful pieces. While there’s no such thing as purse peace, for me anyway, but you’re now getting close, if not there yet to where you want your collection to be. For future videos, I would love to see how you style your bags. Little vlogs when you’re out and about. Or bag wear and tear reviews, bags you took traveling, etc. and yes, chatty videos too. 😊
  • @YosheaLux
Hello Aaron!!! I'm actually getting to the point where I'm almost satisfied with my bag collection. The closer my husband and I are getting to retirement. I have other things on my mind when we retire in a couple of years. I so enjoyed watching. have a wonderful week.
  • @tonipeterson5294
I think this was one of your best videos ever!! Thank you for your honesty! While I don't have nearly as many bags as you do, I do find myself watching videos, searching for the next "it bag." I've come to the determination it's okay to look. I have a one in, one out rule, and that has served me well. My suggestions for you are I would love a closet tour. I would love a top bags of all time video. I would love your top 5 most practical bags for daily life. I would love for you to do take a couple of your bags and rotate them through the week and report in how functional they were, and if you still like them as much. I am blabbing on. These are just a few of the ideas I can think of. I think anyone who loves bags the way we do can relate to how you are feeling. We are with you!
  • @lvluxdelight
I went through the same thing last year! I realized i was putting too much precedence into luxury bags..especially LV I came to realize that i wanted to enjoy my collection more by being more picky with my purchases. Balance is so important...i have put a lot more energy into my fitness, job, and church. But I'm like you, I'm not clearing anything out and enjoying what i have We think much alike! ❤❤❤❤
  • @BeachieDogMom
I agree!! We’re addicted to handbags😭 I have two dogs and I’m still looking at bags online😅
  • I feel your pain!!! I’ve purchased A LOT of handbags since watching purse channels on Utube!!! I no desire to purchase anything right now, as I have plenty of handbags for one person!!
  • I love chatty videos too and collection videos the most. For most people, it’s unrealistic and not financially sustainable to keep unboxing handbags. Aaryn, I love your closet tours. That would be great. I don’t want to spend money on something I’m not going to used either. 😊
  • @janehex
I'm so with you, I've been there almost a year now. My bag collecting definitely goes in phases. I have in the past taken several years off from buying. I started back up again in 2021 and went crazy for a couple years, then came to my senses. I have enough, I have more than enough, and I need to be saving. I'm on a No Buy for this year and I've already lost the taste for mindless impulsive shopping. What helped me is watching a few really great videos about shopping addiction, really eye opening. Wishing you the best 🩷
  • @654ujala
You’re not crazy and neither am I! 😆We are just passionate about bags!
  • @Jessiestyle
HAHA Sorry Erin!!! I made you go down a minty bag hunt!! Don't worry, I don't have any bags in the minty shade either...its a trend that will come..and go! Thanks for the shoutout!!! Loved your discussion!
  • @handbaghoney2800
Hi Aaryn, I truly appreciated your genuine self-check questions. As a bag lover, I enjoy a variety, always. I have gone through seasons of enjoying my bags, no-buy months, then in search of bags that have caught my eye, then selling loads of bags (like I'm doing now)..it's a cycle of seasons. What I've done in the past is stop my email ads, lessened Youtube watching so as not to be influenced. There are many seasons where I'm good with what I have and am not interested in any current bags. For me, I'm downsizing and it feels so good all while enjoying each bag that I'm keeping. I would like to see different topics on the bags you have, maybe how they can be worn in different seasons, styling them with different outfits, just to name a couple. And for discussion videos, I always like seeing the BOTD. I agree and can relate to all that you've said. Thanks so much for the discussion! ❤
  • @allepp8526
Don’t get a puppy. 😂 Two dogs is enough. I have one big dog and he’s a lot of work.
  • @sibimarie33
I understand Aaryn. I haven’t purchased a bag in 3 months. About two weeks ago, I found myself browsing the handbag department at Neiman Marcus. I tried on a few bags, took pictures on my phone, admired the pics when I got home and fell out of love with every single one I tried on 😔 I’m currently struggling with creating content on my channel as well without having to keep buying the next new thing. I think it’s a combination of bag fatigue and experiencing a recent death in my family. I think I just need to find another hobby. You have a lovely collection of bags and I enjoyed listening to this chatty video. Thank you for sharing. ❤
  • This happened to me with Makeup. I loved makeup for years. I watched YouTube videos, spent all of my disposable income on it, played with it, just loved it. I grew out of it. I still love makeup but I don’t collect it anymore.
