its fucking insane how magnus is out there having a near death experience and alex is filming and narrating like a dad at his kids sports day
  • @EricLS
It’s so interesting to hear Alex just completely kick into fear management gear. “That crack was scary honestly” “yeah cool how do your feet feel?” Just immediately moves the conversation to the here and now
  • @ingsYEAH
I think its good to include her reaction in the equation -- I'm glad Magnus is showing how she felt about it. When you take risks, there is an emotional cost to the people who love you.
  • In retrospect it's such a surreal video to watch. Alex is filming himself like he's on a casual weekend hike while Magnus is having a life and death experience in the background.
  • @treck87
Alex looked like a kid in a candy store, just happy to share his special treasure of free-solo with another experienced climber. His free-solo filming of Magnus Free-soloing was another level of intense artwork.

Seeing Magnus and Alex talk about this after the fact is still a gut wrenching watch. Alex did a podcast and gave high praise to Magnus. He knew he was more than capable but praised how he edited the original video and was critical of himself and didn't edit himself to look like a super star. To me Magnus is a superstar no matter what. Loving all the videos
  • The only thing I've ever free solo'd are the stairs in my building and I still managed to fall down them. This to me is one of the pinnacles of endurance, and overcoming fears. Also Alex is so hilariously casual through this entire thing.
  • Alex is having a chilled out day carrying cameras, making jokes and one of the best climbers of the world is scared to death by following him
  • @tracy4509
The look on her face when Magnus is trying to justify his "go for a bush tactic" 🤣
  • @doochebark3508
Alex is that one friend that you're wife kinda like cus he's just such an awesome and positive being but at the same time she REALLY doesnt want you to hang around him too much aha
  • @davidr9876
I feel like Alex's entire commentary is geared to managing Magnus' emotions and guiding Magnus' thought pattern. So if he says "look at the Vegas stip over there" it's not because he wants to show the strip, its to keep Magnus from ruminating on how dire his situation is. And he puts a positive spin on everything. Magnus - "that was scary" Alex...yup, how do your feet feel? Magnus - "That was slippery" Alex - that is actually good because it makes you more purposeful. The level of distraction is like when I'm talki g my kid through getting blood drawn lol. The conversation is disguised as a conversation but in reality I'm saying whatever will best distract my child from the needle.

Alex is an actual mountain goat. What a legend, just running up that wall while filming and commenting lol
  • I think I said it on the original as well but I'll echo it here: This is the best free solo content possible. It's really eye opening to see Magnus shitting bricks on a 5.9! Most of the time solo content is discouraged because you don't really want to inspire others to do such a crazy dangerous thing, but seeing one of my climbing heroes so incredibly uncomfortable on a route he could climb in his sleep really punctuates how terrifying soloing is and emphasizes that this isn't an activity that even the best climbers in the world approach nonchalantly and neither should you. Soloing isn't a joke, it isn't a game, it's literally life or death at every moment. Thanks for doing it so that we don't have to, Magnus! And Marte, please ensure he makes you a hard promise now!! Hahah

Having only ever free-solo'd once in my life on a simple 50m wall, I absolutely had my heart racing watching this. You are an absolutely incredible climber Magnus, and I appreciate your exploration across the different physical sports and disciplines. All of your videos have been an absolute pleasure to watch.
  • @erikpetersen6151
Honesty and lack of ego is incredible. Alex’s commentary is so casual. My hands are sweating like crazy. Great video
  • Hi Magnus, I just wanted to say - your content is already insanely good. Don't beat yourself up over making better and better videos. Just find your groove and keep up the great work! You inspired me to start climbing again :)
  • @kristoferkrus
I like how Alex unintentionally becomes a source of comic relief in this video 😁 Awesome feat, man.
  • @dandymcgee
    4:00 Alex: "I don't have that many go-to partners anymore." Magnus: 💀💀
  • She can read him so well, understand him so well, and describe him so well. That's a solid relationship right there
