Jennette McCurdy opens up about feeling exploited as a child actor and how her time on Nickelodeon’s ‘iCarly’ still affects her today. In her new memoir, ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died,’ the actress recalls having a complicated relationship with her mother, Debra, and reflects on experiences that flew under the radar as she played the role of Sam on ‘iCarly.’ Co-star Miranda Cosgrove spoke out to ‘The New York Times’ about working on set with Jennette amid her recent claims.

The fact that her OWN mother was there and knew exactly what was happening, but didn’t even try to help protect Jennette when she was being exploited makes me sick.

Poor Jennette, she was basically shoved into show business from an early age with the intention of being the main provider. It really makes you think of the rotten side of show business, especially for child actors. I'm glad that she's in a better mental state now.

Everybody on the cast of iCarly seems very very down to earth. It's actually really refreshing. 💞 I'm so glad that she finally gets to speak her truth
  • I'm glad that she and her co-stars seem to have a good relationship and they don't badger her about coming on the show.
  • Even though she went through a lot, Jennette will always be apart of my childhood.
  • I miss seeing her in the iCarly reboot but I am glad she is feeling better.
  • Abhorrent. I can't enjoy iCarly knowing what a creep Dan Schneider is. Full respect to McCurdy for speaking up about it.

That was a great show. It's sad to hear what she's been through 😞
  • I can't stand parents who have a dream, but are either too lazy or too cowardly to make it happen for themselves so they try to make their dream happen through their children ignoring the fact that their children are their own person, and never asked them what they truly wanted. I hope that Jeanette McCurdy is doing alright, and finally free.
  • I didn't even like iCarly growing up and I feel incredibly awful for Jennette. Stage moms are the worst.

Her mom literally said “that’s show biz baby” damn I feel bad. None of these kids ask to be famous

This girl has been through hell. My heart breaks for her

Dan Schneider must be really nervous about this new book.

This is so sad the story’s I have heard about her experiences on nick is so sickening
  • @BadassMoFo.
Jane Lynch seem to be a better mom than Jeanette's actual mom
  • The way her mother treated her almost reminds me of Brooke Shields' relationship with her mother slash manager. I am disappointed that she's no longer in iCarly but at least she's feeling much better now. Behind all that glitz and glamour in show business is a very twisted and depraved world.
  • I know how Jeannette feels but I do feel very bad for her if she wasn't doing acting anymore but I'm happy if she's happy and that's what we want her to be
