The victim died a week after the crime. Miranda was given 3 life sentences and convicted of first degree murder, kidnapping and home invasion.

Anyone else laugh at the irony of being named Miranda and not knowing to STFU and demand a lawyer?

At the hospital I worked. I admitted a 90 year old gentleman. Some of his neighborhood kids believed he had money ( simply more money than they did ) They broke into his trailer. Tied him up with exiletention cords and electrical tape. Beat him almost to death. It was a few days before he was found. He was out of his mind and severely hurt. He needed to have soft restraints to protect him. I could not bear the thought of him being restricted from movement again. He was confused, but you just know the restrictions would have caused panic on some level. I checked out and spent the night with him so he didn't need to be tied down. The next day. I made arrangements with church members to have someone with him at all times. The hopeless, loneliness he must have experienced during his ordeal haunts me. He is gone now. I hope we were able to provide him some comfort in his last days.

"Morons? Your El Dorado is pulling out of the garage!" Gawd, the senselessness of it all. I feel sorry for the neighbor who had to see Paul suffering, too. She's never going to forget that for the rest of her life.

I like the fact that the 911 operator took a split second to assure the caller that help was on the way. I've heard so many recordings where the operator is peppering the caller with questions, ignoring the repeated pleas of "I need an ambulance! I need EMS!" They could just say "They're on the way, I promise!" and continue collecting data. It takes less than a second and saves time overall. I really don't understand why that simple step isn't drilled into them during training.

When I do cleaning for others I do not snoop. I like my reputation of honesty and work ethic.

My grandparents were robbed by their caretakers-my grandfather had brain cancer and my grandmother was in a wheel chair. People who do this to the elderly are despicable!
  • I've honestly come to believe that if you do a home invasion you should get an automatic life sentence. There is nothing more horrifying and terroristic than being in your own home, your safe place, and having something like this happen. This poor man.
  • As a person who is wheelchair bound who hires med aids to help me with some of the stuff around the house. This is terrifying and to beat and steal from a man who has challenges and use those challenges against him is despicable. Not to mention the part about being a Veteran and being prepared to die for freedom, yours and mine, and even these assholes. They should be ashamed.

I dated bruces grandma for awhile. She isnt as harmless and sweet as bruce thinks she is. She was wild!
  • Selfsnitching will never stop because it’s the arrogance and the anger that commits the crime
  • I feel like every older dad has a saying. Bruce goes "so here’s the thing", my dad does "so I said to them", my uncle does "well, I told the guy". It’s like you’re a dad, you hit 50, it’s time to get your catch phrase. 😂

“If you are commiting crimes, don’t journal about it! That’s self-snitching!” BR
  • I love that you say “here’s the thing.” It lets me know that you are about to clarify something for me, and my ears perk up because I’m about to learn either some legal point, or you are going to highlight an observation. Please don’t feel self conscious about it. It is relatable, it is helpful, and while I know that you are an expert it makes me feel like I am listening to a super smart friend, because that is just the way that people talk with each other. Please don’t stop, just be your natural self, it works.

My mother used to work as a cleaning lady for an old man. When he died, my mother was very surprised when she was told that he left quite some money for her in his will. Imagine if this girl had been nice to this man instead of doing what she did. Maybe he would have added her to his will and left her his car or some money or whatever. Just be kind to people!
  • Hearing him in the background of that 911 call is haunting 😔 I don’t understand how a defense attorney could even begin putting a defense together for someone like this. I know everyone deserves defense council but lord I could never defend someone that did this to this poor old man.

Paul was alert and smart (noticing spare key missing), and full of courage. He nailed his torturers. There are more and more seniors needing care workers to do home visits. Even when there is no valuables, they could still fall victim to be tortured to withdraw money from retirement accounts or CDs.

Bruce, one of my all time favorite lines, "If they were smart, they wouldn't be criminals!"
  • This breaks my heart. I worked as a cna and my clients were all sweet and kind. To think that you could do something like this to someone who relied on you for help with their daily livings is just sickening. She sounds and looks like a hardcore drug user. she needs to be behind bars for life. I would not be surprised to find out that she participated in the physical abuse to make him talk. There is a special lace in hell for people like her. Hope she gets her just desserts where she is going.

I want some Bruce Rivers merch with pearl-handled pistol cufflinks. Maybe a hoodie or sweatshirt with them printed on each wrist
