The WORST Zone in Sea of Thieves..

The closest thing we get to an "Endgame" in Sea of Thieves would be.. The Devil's Roar. A fundamentally hostile environment designed to make you want to quit the game as soon as possible.

Its upsides? Ashen varieties of basic loot that has a higher base value, sure, but even Rare themselves have realized that this isn't an equal trade-off. So few players want to spend their time in this zone that the only way to get them to do it willingly would be by hiding the rarest item in the entire game within its borders.. The Box of Wondrous Secrets.

personally i'm one of those weirdos that actually likes the devils roar. it's not my favourite region but i honestly hate the wilds (mainly talking about the islands) a lot more than the roar. also tbh if i have a really bad pvp day or just cannot be bothered to chase or be chased across half the map, i just sail into the roar to make some coin and not have to worry about enemy ships as much (as everyone apparently despises the roar). and i feel like once you get used to the roar its fairly easy to navigate and deal with whatever rare throws at you there. but i also totally understand why so many people hate it. :)
  • @MintyJet
I can’t believe he ran into the Athena legend of the veil glitch in the devils roar
  • @littlehippos1
I love the Devils roar, with all its charms. Also because its a "death trap" hardly anyone is there to try and kill you, usually.
  • @vbbrothers
Ah I still remember the time I saw a volcano errupt and wondering "is that rock going to hit me?" and then learning that seawater can boil you to death. Good times!
  • actually i can explain exactly why there was all that random athena loot: some pirates have figured out by buying the bundles of legend of the veil, vote and lower a bunch, any with the shipwrecks as the first quest will spawn in the loot. but it wont be active till a boat gets near. so you can stack multiple shipwrecks worth (like 5 to 6 if not more) and have all the loot but no ships (if you voted to cancel) no doubt you stumbled upon someone trying to do that very exploit, hense all the floatys

Cliff your storytelling and your crew is a great combo and makes these videos amazing :D
  • First of all, amazing video and I'm so glad you're taking sponsors now, you deserve it! However the only time I have voluntarily gone into the devil's roar was when I was chased by a reaper brigantine when I was doing my daily therapeutic commodity run and I was forced to hide behind the volcanoes while they blew me to pieces just to escape. My ship ended up sinking due to the amount of holes I had acquired due to the debris but at least it wasn't at the hands of the try hard reapers!
  • @MichaelSDoran
I was lucky to find a Box of Wondrous Secrets buried at Ancient Spire Outpost once! I can only guess that the pirates that buried it didn't understand what it was or where to sell it.

1:20 madman! Its a treasure chest equivalent to the shrouded ghost in rarity! (i did find it tho... for those wondering how: Athena voyage, random X dig) 4:39 mermaid staff can take care of those. You can solo destroy the red statue even underwater with them! 4:53 if you like achievements, you might want to reconsider this point. Its a darn good method of getting the achievement related to the devils roar merchant. 6:21 someone was bug abusing hard, will skip how they did it, but know that it can get you banned for replicating the bug 7:39 it appears the bug abusers were wondering where their loot has gone 8:43 send my regard to bernie that you need to shoot its jaw. Its entire body is underwater after all. 9:50 Nothing more bloodthirsty in the seas than a pirate with his ship already full of supplies, a stressful day at the roar and his quest completed.
  • my crew and i call the roar our home. we spend so much time there. a lot of the battle is coordination. the second an earthquake begins someone goes to the boat while the rest of the crew keeps doing the voyage. once the black smoke begins, that person sails away immediately and parks out of range of the volcano while the crew finds a place to stay on the island. our crew just gets a feel for how to operate there and it’s very rewarding
  • @aech_two_oh
I cant begin to explain how happy I am that cliff got sponsors recently, these are without a doubt the only ones I dont skip
  • @BarokaiRein
I legitimately think that Devil's roar is by far the best zone in the game. Everything else feels really boring in comparison. I cannot imagine going back to doing gold hoarder missions in islands that aren't trying to kill you with volcanic activity because said volcanic activity also kills your enemies for you if you learn how work with the Volcano Spirit instead of treating it as your enemy. It's pretty easy to dodge the barrage of fireballs if you simply circle around the island instead of trying to sail directly away from it. Takes bit of practice but when you're done you'll never get hit by something like a fort ever again because you're used to dodging 10 times the amount of projectiles.
  • Its always a good day when cliff uploads! Edit: About the athena loot: Its an exploit with the captain's veil voyages, if you search it up you'll see how it works
  • @CheshyrCatt
Cliff storylines in a nutshell: "I came up with a crazy idea that was upsetting to both my better senses and my crew, we gave it a shot but it didn't work out, and in the end we all still had fun." All written super well and in a way that makes me want to come back every time he posts, lol!
  • @dunsix
This guy went from 0 to 177k subscribers in almost a year. Insane. I've been watching since you were at about 5k or 10k subscribers and you just had a way of recording and scripting that makes it seem like chapters of an adventure tale. It is just so well crafted. Congrats man!
  • @timekeeper_hi
Ever since the rowboat episode (when i first started watching), you have been such an entertainment and what inspired me to come back to sea of thieves and actually do my PL which i just finished. Thx for being an inspiration Cliff
  • @schwaen5456
Oh i can absolutely tell you, that the veil can lead into the devils roar. Doesnt give more loot, just more pain. Also had the bug of randomly spawned loot aswell. Boosted us to reaper 5 from 1 instantly
  • @XavierMorris.
I recently came across this channel after hopping back onto the SoT grind. Let me say that I have your videos on while I'm playing almost 24/7, either during my Tall Tale 100% completion journey or grinding out Reaper & Hunters Call 50. Keep it up and I wish you happy sailing!
  • Just waiting for my two faithful crew members to get back from holiday, so this video has somewhat helped my urging to play on the seas again, thanks cliff!
