[TAS] Interdimensional Slider 64 in 3:34.70

Published 2024-06-03
This hack is really cool, especially with the final star's level which is *sick*. (Link: romhacking.com/hack/interdimensional-slider-64 )

Requested by Dr. RNG, who made a preliminary TAS of this a few weeks ago. I managed to find a number of improvements, specifically better skips in the first and last "true" levels.

Peach's Secret Slide
Starts off as the standard slide, but then turns into a hellscape once you pass a specific point. The goal becomes reaching the bottom, so I jump off as soon as I can to increase my vertical speed to get there faster.

Castle Movement 1
The doors for later levels (And previous ones too, depending on which one you just finished) are blocked off; hacking Mario's speed to get behind the locked doors shows that their loading zones have been removed too, which means the only way forward is beating the levels in order as intended. I cut across the castle with a dive rollout and a jump, followed by a jump kick to just barely make it over the railing.

Level 1-1
You're intended to do a whole slide section and then climb back up to the ending section, but a precise buttslide allows Mario to completely skip the entire slide.

Level 1-2
I start with a dive and rollout at the only possible point near the beginning to get an extra speed boost. From my testing, it was faster to take the high road for a bit before falling back down to the main slide. I do a dive rollout as I did at the beginning, and then perform the hyperspeed punch trick (Due to the whole area being a water slide) to get a massive burst of speed to launch to the first star.

Castle Movement 2
A series of long jumps was tested to be the fastest. We also casually pass by Sonic, who gives out a secret star and tells you a bit about the whole lore of this game which is completely skipped here.

Level 2
A much shorter, simpler slide section followed by jumping on some clouds; I do a butt-bounce followed by a double jump to reach the star more quickly.

Castle Movement 3
The final door is unlocked, which only leads to a blank space. You then make your way back out to the front of the castle, which leads to a series of pipes you jump into. You're eventually treated to the Bowser fight you've seen a thousand times in other places... except things derail soon after.

Level 3
In which the goal is to slide and fall all the way down to the end. In the starting section with Vanish Cap under The Moat's level, I angle Mario so that he falls off as soon as possible, then modify his angle again so that I just barely hit the trigger for Cool Cool Mountain. Then, I hit the mountain and slide backwards, which is actually faster than Mario's terminal velocity. I make my way down to the Bowser's Sub and Jolly Roger Bay sections, and eventually reach the Bob-Omb Battlefield sub-level. By entering with enough speed and the right angle, it's possible to wall kick and just barely make it over the highest fence to completely skip the entire sub-level, after which is only a bit of sliding in another Castle section before reaching the final star.

Post-Victory
Turns out it's barely possible to fly across the chasm without needing to activate the cannon, which saves time.

  • @nimtie64
Ooh more simpleflips comp slide hack TASes!! Idk if you take requests, if not that’s fine but Mario’s tilt o Rama might be interesting to TAS
  • @dr_rng
Amazing TAS! I knew there was a lot of room for improvement over my TAS.
  • @spootot
insane movement. this TAS guy is a great speedrunner
  • @Antifrost
2:19 You thought it was a Bowser fight, but it's more Slider! Seriously, this hack looks pretty fun. Good job with the TAS.
  • @theduke7768
I have absolutely zero idea what is going on. It looks like I might have to take a look at a playthrough of the mod to understand this better, but it looks cool.
