How did Bungie build up to the Final Shape's epic conclusion? And why should this matter to non-Destiny players? We dive deep into the parallels between The Witness and Thanos, two villains with god-like powers and twisted ambitions. We'll explore how both franchises masterfully crafted a 10-year narrative journey, gradually revealing their true villainy and escalating the stakes with each installment.

Destiny is different from a cinematic experience. It's an interactive saga where YOU, the player, shape the outcome. How has Bungie crafted a generational, shared story that keeps players coming back for more? And what does The Final Shape mean for the future of gaming?

They finished the lore of a live service game, I never expected something like this to actually happen.

I think the biggest testament about the magic of this franchise is how in the end, when all was said and done and the Eldritch horror that has haunted the universe was defeated, with all its ups and lows I and many were brought to tears of the sheer weight being lift of our shoulders. Destiny has been like a companion, a trully unique universe that with all its flaws has struck a chord in those who stuck with it that knowing the saga ended its like you had to close a chapter of your life. I only remember this feeling after mass effect ended. Almost like saying goodbye to a part of yourself in an emotional climax after the witness laid defeated. I will cherish this moment. For all the asthetics, for the years of extremely good music, for the art and awe it inspired and the good times playing the game. Not a perfect game, nor franchise, but as you said as a perfectly imperfect magical world where we actually cared about the ultimate fate of a very small last city, in a world of darkness but with hope written all over it. The traveller with its silence is perhaps the most perfect representation of what seeing a god i have seen in a video game. A silent protector in a world of darkness that its simple existance brings hope for a better future. And it all culimanates in a race to enter the monolith, were we as a community waited 19 hours for a single firetime to defeat the witness and open the way to the biggest mission we have had in all these yars, with all our allies fighting toguether and a dozen guardians blasting the ultimate evil as 10 years of musical motives blasted on the background.

When it had finally dawned on me how I’ve been playing this fucking game for about 10 years, since I was just a kid, I honestly cried a little.

Started destiny y when I was 14 on year 1 and now on 23 almost 10 years later. Been one hell of a journey and I’m really interested to see where frontiers takes the story next.

I've been using end game to describe to friends and family just how big of deal the final shape was when they asked me why I would be playing video games for 3-4 days straight with the drop of final shape and salvation's edge. So this is perfect.
  • @REDemon14
"Thanos; meet The Witness" I would like to see that

Europa was already icy, the pyramid ship didn’t do that. It’s an icy moon both in game and irl
  • @spartan-1210
7:15 Europa is an icy wasteland in real life my guy, the pyramid ship did not do that.

I still remember when D2 came out, one of my teachers, being a gamer, told me "no one plays Destiny for the story" But I did. As someone who didn't have anyone to play raids and other endgame content with, a game's story was all I had. I've been playing Destiny since the beginning of D1, I was reading about it in game informer magazines well before it released, I tried to play the D1 beta but couldn't due to hardware issues and I had similar issues with the D2 beta. Even in middle school, I loved Destiny's story and subsequent expansions. I continued to follow the overarching story throughout D2, only becoming even more impossibly invested. Now, after finally defeating the Witness, playing on the same Xbox One I originally booted up D1 on 10 years ago with the same Warlock character, looking back all I can say is... What. A. Ride. What an absolute pleasure it has been to be a part of this journey, to live in this story and world for the past 10 years, coming full circle on the same decade-old Xbone and void F***-you-bomb Warlock. But the journey isn't over yet... so eyes up, guardian.

From what i know, only 3 mainstream mmos managed to finish their with saga: "wow, ffxiv and destiny" And i think destiny had the more satisfying and better ending

What should be noted is that the Traveler only wants us to have free will, to make life from the flower game. The Witness is not the Winnoer, or "the deep". They are separate entities and do not share ideals, even as the Witness relies on darkness for its power, but the Winnoer actually controls the Witness. The Witness wants purpose and form; the opposite of the Traveler. The Winnoer wants the flower game to go on; cutnout which does not win... but it's still not too clear. As such, the Winnoer controls the Witness but they arent mutual in their views, which is confusing.
  • I've been thinking of Marvel the whole time. Thank you for making this video. Final shape was.... everything we needed in gaming, honestly.
  • I would honestly say Mass Effect 3 did the Endgame of Gaming first with all the races of the Milky Way arriving to Earth for the final battle. But this was really good. Thing got me amped.

see a lot of people talk shit about destiny and some of it is valid but i don't see any other game that is a live service model that has come back from almost being shut down for good multiple times nor has done a whole story arc of 10 years so it must be doing something right and i've been playing it for the 10 years
  • @Bolden585
You got an awesome shout out in Couch Coops new video! Not sure what the Lion king is referencing though ?
  • You can't have an Endgame without an Infinity War first. And Lightfall was most certainly not an Infinity War
  • @nolanporter2212
After playing for 10 years i really didnt have high hopes; unclear story direction, layoffs, c-suite befudgery, the crucible, etc, but oh my god man after playing through the campaign and getting a clear of the raid i cant imagine a stronger note to end on
  • @1124spawn
