My grandpa, (Army 99th Infantry) found a typewriter and learned to type so he could move into an administrative role at the end of the war. So I can say at least in one case, the Army used a captured typewriter. I doubt he was alone.
  • I wouldn't worry much about the box! The pistol looks correct and very nice.
  • Stunning and I love it when the facts in your hands cause you to question the beliefs you have. I have no doubt the entire package is legit.

PPK story: Before I was born, my father bought a black Walther PPK with dark brown grips during the Lebanese civil war from his cousin who had smuggled it and several other European pistols into Lebanon. My Dad paid his monthly salary for it, the equivalent of 300 dollars at the time. Later on, his cousin asked to borrow the PPK, and ended up selling it to someone else, and he offered my Dad a Browning Hi Power pistol instead. My Dad was mad and never forgave him for it. Recently I bought my Dad a Soviet Russian Makarov pistol, which is common in Lebanon, and he likes it a lot because it reminds him of the beautiful Walther PPK.
  • You are highly knowledgeable, it’s a true history lesson, beautiful pistol
  • A: that is a great looking pistol. B: those holsters!!! I'd have thought they were a modern novelty had it not been you and the brochure. Very interesting That you for the continuing education.

Yes Tom, I would say you are probably correct, in that the U.S. Army in 1945 did, in fact, have more than one typewriter.
  • It is different brand/maker of manual typewriters. By the font, you can research and find what different types of typewriters were used on that document.
