What are stem cells? - An short educational film by the Irish Stem Cell Foundation

Stem cells are master cells of the body — want to learn more? Visit www.irishstemcellfoundation.org

ISCF is an independent not-for-profit organisation whose primary objective is to educate about stem cells, their basic biology and the research and therapies using them.

The Foundation will initially focus on education outreach programs, hoping to address the growing problem of bogus stem cell scams being offered to Irish patients over the internet. The Foundation will also assist the development of Irish policy and legislature in this area of medicine and science, ensuring Ireland is informed.

The Foundation consists of a broad range of people including Irish doctors, scientists, patient advocates, educators, bioethicists and other associated parties seeking to expand and develop the Irish public's understanding of stem cells.

In what occassions are the stem cells of a human embryo required? Are they required when regenerating any human organ? Or are they required for specific limbs and organs?
  • @Timkaasjager
finally! a simple, clear viseo about stem cells!
  • good for you am doing a research currently on it I hope to see your result if you reach something new
  • An analogy to this would be: What if we could make people [cells] forget who they truly are, induce them in a long term and irreversible amnesia and make of them the "regenerated beings" we [rulers] want them to be? That phase we will call: THE HEALING of a society in auto mode through a new set of information and consequently a society [group of cells] that will behave neatly accordingly to what it was planned since the beginning. Very appealing to those who have eyes and see beyond the basics.
  • This is sooo fascinating. I'm a biology student and I'm starting to realize how all the interesting things scientists can do for us that we have absolutely no idea it is possible to happen. Biology is so vast in possibilities; that's why I like it!

i never learned about IPS. the promises of its development are so dope
  • I'm not exactly sure which is easier, but I would assume that getting them while they are still stem cells and not other parts of the body would be easier. So yeah, I think it would be easier to get stem cells from an embryo. Not sure if they still do the foetus technique though. Glad I could help. :)
