The Atmosphere

An overview of the composition and layers of the Earth's atmosphere, including a discussion of the exosphere, thermosphere, mesosphere, stratosphere, and troposphere. I also discuss the ozone layer and ozone depletion, the Karman line which marks the boundary of space, and the ionosphere.

  • 21:10 I rarely if ever see a presentation about the earth's atmosphere that does not grossly misrepresent one of it's most important features, that compared to the dimensions of the earth the atmosphere is really, really thin. Not that these graphic models are useless, they are necessary. However, I would love to see a presentation that might show the true dimensions of what we are dealing with. I speculate that atmospheric comparative thinness might have an effect on it's patterns of circulation. I am not scientist enough to explain why I think that might be the case. Coriolis?
