Retevis Ailunce HD2 DMR Ham Radio

Published 2024-03-06
The Retevis Ailunce HD2 DMR radio is finally here!
A few weeks before this post was published, Retevis reached out to ask if I would test an update to the Retevis Ailunce HD1. I've been using the Retevis Ailunce HD1 since late 2023. I also knew the Retevis Ailunce HD2 was incoming. Both are capable radios! Here's a video of the Retevis Ailunce HD1 water ingress protection capabilities.    • Retevis Ailunce HD2 DMR Ham Radio

Question, what is the aes 256 encryption used for on this radio. I thought that was a no no in ham radio unless the keys were published and in public domain?
  • Thanks for cov6thus, Julian. Any possibility you've played with interoperability? I e got a TYT and was able to cobble it to talk to my Anytone. Will the Retevis speak the same code plug?

Interested to see how your testing of this radio goes. I've been interested in the Aliunce HD1 but I'd heard about issues it has with being easily desensed and I didn't like the lack of AES256 encryption support. This update seems like it would compare favorably with the AnyTone AT-D878UVII Plus or its Btech 6X2 clone.

Looks like AnyTone needs to step up their game. Especially for the IP rating.

What are the upgrades/improvements from the HD1? Like a compare and contrast?
  • @bolonudo
I wonder about the screen bightness during day light. Can you actually see the screen in the day light? HD1 is totally useless in this regard

Im struggling to find any reason to upgrade from the HD1 to the HD2. Bluetooth audio I've never used on the Yaesu FT3D or IC705, Encryption for us in the UK is a no no, and 300,000 contacts has been enough for me. Would of been a better upgrade for it to have proper APRS, TalkerAlias support. I just get the idea its a FT3D vs FT5D situation.

Hello - is AES128/256 confirmed? It wasn’t listed on the specs on Retevis’ website. Many comments on their IG post complaining of this missing. Just curious. Thanks
  • @nseelinger
Any ideas where to get the updated firmware, as they don’t have it published on their website?
  • @BobBob-il2ku
Can it be “mars modded” opened up to TX/RX on FRS/MURS/GMRS ect for USA ?
  • @DFenech
Is the HD2 capable of running OpenGD77 firmware?
  • @bradl2636
Are the GPS models named "GPS" or are ALL versions HD2 with GPS as standard?
  • @enigma6482
Ailunce has said the HD2 does not have AES-256, but might get it later. Was this an upgraded version or something that had AES-256?
