Chinchillas are small, furry rodents that are native to the Andes mountains in South America. They have soft, dense fur, large ears, and big, expressive eyes. Chinchillas are known for their playful and curious nature and can make great pets for those willing to provide them with the proper care and attention.
As pets, chinchillas are low-maintenance and relatively easy to care for. They require a cage with plenty of room to climb and play, a diet of high-quality hay and chinchilla pellets, and regular dust baths to keep their fur clean and healthy.

  • You really should specify that chinchillas take dust baths, not regular water baths
  • And don't forget it is a long-term commitment. They can live up to 20 years in captivity. My Chester passed at 13 years of age.
  • Hello! I work at an animal care and shipping facility. All of this is true. But something else to take into consideration is that they are very shy animals, they take a lot of time to build trust with. They can also be picky. But they are angelically soft and very energetic

Chinchillas are like a cross between mice and rabbits.
  • When your apartment doesnā€™t allow cats or dogs but the lease doesnā€™t mention rodents

ā€œIf ur gonna get a pet do ur research before u own oneā€ is the best advice I can give to ppl wanting to get a pet
  • I own this Pokemon since 2011, and gave her Everstone, so she never evolved until now. What a lovely Pokemon,
  • You didn't need to put the hat on the chinchilla at the end, but now that you did, I'm sold.
  • I was a herion addict for 3 years. I got my chin 3 years ago. The good news is, no more drugs, the bad news is, now I'm addicted to fluff
  • You forgot to mention they have the thickest coats of any animal in the world. If you live in a warm country, you need air conditioning. For this reason, is also why you can't hug them, they will struggle outta your hands because it gets too hot. You can't water bathe them unless they have skin conditions or handled by a professional Chinchilla groomer. That's why they powder bath.

"They require a lot of attention" My cat: Ah, a worthy opponent at last

When he says bathe he means not with water. They bathe in dust. They can get fungus infections if they get wet. the water stays in the fur because its super dense.
  • @laureng2820
Oh this is definitely a signā€¦Iā€™ve been talking about getting a chinchilla for weeks lolšŸ˜…

ā€œThey need someone to cuddle with themā€ AND Iā€™M NOT GOOD ENOUGH?!?!
  • @ellalien9623
All are true! I have two chinchillas. Just gonna clarify when he says ā€œbatheā€ he means dust baths NEVER use water. Edit:thank you for 17k likes! The reason you donā€™t use water is chinchillas should be dry, using water can make them very sick. This is because their fur is very dense when wet making it a long long process of drying to where the chinchilla may get pneumonia.
  • Important note: chinchillas overheat fairly easily, so be sure to keep them cool and make sure theyā€™re home isnā€™t above 75F (24C). The ideal temp for them is around 65F (18C).
